Plagiarism of Obama’s speech: Buhari set to punish aides

President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered prompt and appropriate disciplinary action be taken against those responsible for a wrongful insertion in his speech delivered on September 8, 2016 at the launch of the “Change Begins with Me’’ campaign.

A statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said that it was observed that the similarities between a paragraph in President Obama’s 2008 Victory Speech and what President Buhari read in paragraph nine of the sixteen-paragraph address while inaugurating the Campaign on Thursday, September 8, 2016 are too close to be passed as coincidence.

It reads: “There was a mistake by an overzealous staff and we regret that this has happened.

“Already, a Deputy Director in the Presidency has accepted responsibility for the insertion of the contentious paragraph.

“This serious oversight will be investigated thoroughly and appropriate sanction meted.

“The Presidency wishes to state in the clearest possible terms that it regrets this unfortunate incident and will ensure that this does not happen again,” It added

President Buhari also urged Nigerians to look beyond the incident and focus on the message of change which the country needed to restore her cherished value systems.

  3. There is nothing unfortunate about the incident. Copying/plagiarism is expected from an idealess administration. It is not a surprise.

  4. It is not new. The almighty Emir of Kano and former CBN Governor, Sanusi, stole a US-based Nigerian Ibo man's whole work and presented as his. The man had threatened hell and brimstone, but as expected, Sanusi must have shut him up with a portion of our reserve to avoid disgrace.

  7. This is just an indication that PMB is surrounded with mediocres. People who can't think on their own but depend on stealing ideas from others. They are smart at doing so and the unsuspecting citizens fall easily prey of their deceptive gymnastics. You need to also remark that there is no natural flow whenever our president reads his speeches. When you follow through his reading you will notice that he has no idea about what he is reading

  8. This is what happens when you have no original thoughts for your scribes to build on/use. Zombie ape.

  9. It could have been a typo error. Every institution references other people's work except in this case the omission of QUOTATION mark. The silent majority ask for President Buhari to be given a little time. Thanks

  11. If d whole idea was really his,I mean the President, I sincerely feel he should have put his sincere thoughts in black and white instead of leaving everything to his aide who is supposed to mainly edit or give one or two suggestions. It pays to be up-to-date with d happenings around us. I wonder if our dear president never listened to such an important address by Obama or else somtin wld hav clicked to warn him. As for the person who did this wld I call him careless? corrupt? lazy or wicked? He has just succeeded in splashing muddy water on our President's 'white' robe.
