Partial compliance greets IPOB’s sit-at-home order in Enugu

A seeming partial compliance with the sit-at-home protest ordered by the Indigenous People of Biafra was recorded in Enugu on Friday.


IPOB had called on residents of the South-East and South-South to stay away from their shops and offices to press home the demand for the release of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, and other detained pro-Biafra agitators.

The secessionists said the sit-at-home protest would “further compound Nigeria’s economic misery.”

But, contrary to IPOB’s directives, markets, shops, offices, schools and other public places opened for business in Enugu.

However, our correspondent observed a low turnout of traders and customers at the major markets in the Coal City, including the popular Ogbete Main Market and New Market.
Unlike normal days when the markets would be filled up as early as 7:00 am, our correspondent noticed that there were few people at the markets as at 10:00 am.

The market, however, began filling up as from 11:00 am.

But, as at the time this report was filed, the markets were yet to be filled to their full capacity, as some of the locked-up-shops did not open for business.
