Nigerian Air Force kills Boko Haram members in Borno air raid

The Nigerian Air Force has killed undisclosed number of Boko Haram members during a raid on the insurgents in Borno.

The Director of Information and Public Relations of the NAF, Group Capt. Ayodele Famuyiwa, said that the fighter jets of the NAF hit suspected Boko Haram on the outskirts of Tumbin Gini and Tumbin Kayewa in the North of Borno on Friday.

He said that the strikes were carried out in response to the report of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions carried out by the NAF in the area.

Famuyiwa said that a post strike battle damage assessment conducted by the NAF showed that several of the insurgents were killed and their hideout seriously damaged.

“The Nigerian Air Force in continuation of its efforts at finishing the remnants of the Boko Haram terrorists conducted several air strikes at suspected Boko Haram locations on the outskirts of Tumbin Gini and Tumbin Kayewa Northeastern Borno State on Friday 16 September 2016.

“The air strikes were as a result of ground-based intelligence and successive Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance reports obtained from several missions flown by NAF platforms. In a video released by the NAF, some of the terrorists could be seen at one of the rendezvous where they were believed to be holding a high-level meeting when NAF jets were scrambled to hit the locations.

“A post-strike battle damage assessment of the the strikes revealed that the rendezvous was badly damaged with many casualties while those far from the vicinity could be seen scrambling to safety. The aircrafts involved in the air strikes are the NAF F-7Ni and the Alpha jets.”

He said that the aerial offensive by the NAF had continued to clear the ground for the movement of surface forces in the ongoing Operation Gama Aiki in the area.

He recalled that the fighter jets of the NAF killed many top commanders of the insurgents during similar raids on their camps at Tumbin Rego on August 26, 2016.

  1. Na true, Borno is becoming lively again. Thank you APC and woe unto PDP. We will never forget that PDP/Jonathan refused to even visit us not untill after after APC governors had successfully visited us in Bornu. There were days that nobody talk of food in Maiduguri, everyone was just to make sure he is alive first. Thank GOD we can even talk about lack of food now.
