Niger Delta militants responsible for economic recession –VP, Osinbajo

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has attributed the current economic recession to the activities of militants in the Niger Delta.

Osinbajo said there was no way Nigeria would not be affected, given the fact that the nation now loses over one million barrels of crude oil on a daily basis.

The Vice-President said this on Monday at the maiden meeting of the Presidential Quarterly Business Forum, with members of the organised private sector and other stakeholders at the State House Conference Centre, Aso Villa, Abuja.

The meeting is part of the Federal Government’s effort to continually engage regularly with different segments of the Nigerian public on its economic policies and direction‎.

Osinbajo said, “Perhaps it is important for us to understand the nature of this recession in which we have found ourselves. A lot depends on what sort of recession and how we got here.

“If we did not have vandalism in the Niger Delta as we are currently suffering, we will not have this recession today.

“Moreover, in looking at the solutions, we should try to focus on the type of problem we have and what instigated it; then we can begin to come up with better solutions.”

  3. You have moved from blaming the recession on Jonathan's administration to Niger Delta Militants. You sound different from PMB who said that past administration did not live anything for his administration to inherit. Obasanjo countered and said GEJ left $30 billion in the reserve. Now you (Osibanjo) have now technically begun to speak differently by blaming your administration's failure on Niger Delta Militants. Obviously there's no truth in this government. You guys lied and painted GEJ black to take over power. You succeeded in that. However you all are incompetent in managing Nigeria and drove the country to recession. In order to defend yourselves you all started blaming previous governments. Since OBJ felt indicted by your lies he has reminded you people of $30 billions this government inherited. Ah now the blame game is upon Niger Delta Militants. But I remember emir Sanusi who was one of your strong supporters until recently saying that oil was not responsible for the whole economy. May I ask you which other lies you will tell Nigerians? Which lies again you go tell o? Me I don't know

Pastor am ashame that you can be lying publicly like this, the other time you said it was the refusal of the past administration that caused the present economic crisis, now its Militant.... The next time it will be either me or you because change has begone from you and me..... Instead of all this complains you guys should take a bold step and resign as an hero, lets see if Nigeria will not move forward..

It has got to the point that even if any APC member fails to satisfy his wife in bed,it must be Jonathan and PDP 16 years. I am surprised that this lying pastor is talking another thing now.

  6. The story has changed. Not Goodluck again. Not even PDP 's sixteen years of "misrule"? Now it is the Niger Deltan militants, Broad professor, think of another object of your blame game!
When the man pounding yam is either tired or fed up he starts pursuing goats and fowls. If no one notices him he secretly prays for someone to come and take pestle from him. Maybe, you have been praying silently that someone should come and take over your government, I sincerely hope that it is not mob!

    1. What a brilliant comment, Ijeoma. You are so so perceptive, I doff my hat for you.
Niger Delta lays the eggs, strangers fry it to eat. I thought ND people were all bunch of "criminals," adding no value to Lugard's Nigeria. Wow!
Why complain when your soldiers have already been assigned to wipe us out? Exercise patience for your soldiers to return the oil export to its pre-APC government output?

  9. It is very pitiful and highly irresponsible on the side of this administration for not being able to accept responsibility for its ineptitude. Please this administration should be civil enough to accept its short-comings and quit all these blame games for it is rather becoming quite ridiculous and very childish. Honestly, I view this government with a full dose of nostalgia.
