MASSOB seeks foreign assistance for ‘Biafra Republic’

The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra on Tuesday asked for the assistance of the international community in addressing the alleged marginalisation of the people of the South-East which it called the Biafra territory.

The secessionist group stated this during a peaceful march by members of the Anioma zone to mark the 17th anniversary of the group in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

The Anioma Zonal Coordinator of MASSOB, Mr. Emeka Okafor, said nothing would stop the group from achieving its set goal of a ‘Biafra Republic.’

Okafor, while hailing members of the group for the turn out despite heavy security presence in the state capital, described the celebration of the anniversary of MASSOB as a task that must be done irrespective of what the Nigerian government felt.

He also dismissed claims that some members of the groups were engaged in armed robberies and other criminal acts, adding that it would remain a non-violent secessionist group.

Okafor added, “They (policemen) were around but we were changing position because I know that they were ready to kill anybody, they are always against the law. We did the celebration with wisdom and I thank our leader, Ralph Uwazuriuke, for his leadership style.
