Jessica Beer, a Junior Secondary School (JSS) II student of Gyegeh Memorial College Logo1 , Makurdi, Benue State, reportedly committed suicide over her boyfriend.

Beer reportedly drank a substance believed to be poison and was rushed to a clinic in Akpehe, before doctors confirmed her dead on arrival.

Reports have it that the girl committed suicide because her boyfriend by name Labi, a pork meat seller at Wurukum Market in Makurdi impregnated, abandoned her and then impregnated another girl.

Several efforts to reach the Benue State PPRO, Moses Yamu could not yield any result as his phone was switched off at the time of this report.

    1. Comments regarding what? The age of the male is not mentioned and if he is her boyfriend, he may be a minor like her himself. Secondly the age of the girl is not mentioned. But most importantly while a minor having sex can not be condoned, (and can not be avoided where a wayward or misguided minor is having it without her parents/guardians knowledge) there should be no attempt to legalise sex by a minor under any condition including marriage. Everyday some wayward underaged children have sex in an increasingly sexually pervasive society but it should never be condoned let alone legitimised through marriage.

  2. It's not a christian situation. It is the backward and poverty-ridden mentality prevailing in our society that will drive a girl to commit suicide because she is pregnant and her baby's father impregnated another girl.
If we are not this poor, pre-marital pregnancy will not be such a big issue and if we're not backward, girls wouldn't need to have a man to validate that they're lovable and important.
