I'm richer than many state governors - Ifeanyi Ubah

The Chairman of Capital Oil and Gas, Mr. Ifeanyi Ubah, has said his desire to govern Anambra State is not to make money.

He said he was richer by every standard than some state governors.

Ubah said his ambition to govern his state was borne out of his conviction that he could better the lots of the people.

He said, “I am blessed in every ramification. If not for the love I have for Anambra, I should not have any reason to aspire to be governor, because there is nothing a governor enjoys that I do not enjoy.

“I had the best manifesto to change the fortunes of Anambra people when I aspired in 2013 to be a governor, but I had to let go because it must not be me.”

He said he had no plans to vie for the position of the governor in the state next.

He gave conditions under which he would support the re-election of the incumbent governor of the state, Chief Willie Obiano, which he said would include appointing him (Ubah) Obiano’s campaign director.

Ubah spoke with journalists in an interactive session to mark his 45th birthday at his Nnewi home.

He said, “So far, the governor is doing well, and I will support him, but we must think beyond our selfish interests. We must reject a situation where one man finishes his tenure and takes his stooge and puts him as governor.”

  1. There are a lot of things a governor enjoy that you can not enjoy...how many commissioners have u ever appointed, how many times have u been briefed on the proceedings of a state, how many people are u in charge of their salary?, can u attend meetings in governors forum, how powerful is ur entourage, can u even blow a siren..do you enjoy diplomatic visa to any part of the world..pls power is not money don't lie to urself plus u not among the first 20th richest Nigerians..so calm down

  2. For you to compare yourself a business man to a government worker shows the level of decay in that dead country.I did not know a Govornor should be rich as for a business mogul to compare with . It only shows why people aspire to be there rather than for what they have to offer. Until intellectuals begin to ascend the seat of power that empty space called a country will remain a habitation of nonentity especially.

    1. Am so sorry for you if you are a Nigerian, you can't call a country where your roots are from dead and "nonentity" and expect to amount to much, no matter what you think you have or where you reside.. A tree always produces what it gets from its roots, no matter how far it grows, if you were wiser, you will bless this nation not just by your words but by action.. If you hold yourself to high esteem as you tend to pose by this your narrative, you would decipher ways to better the lot of this country, nobody will better this country it's me and you(that's if you are a Nigerian)... I bless Nigeria everyday, I do all I can to see it gets to where it ought to be, by first being a good Nigerian and doing things that ought to be done, when it ought to and where it ought to...

  3. "Obinna is doing well so far" whilst I acknowledge the huge amount of money spent on some projects in the state like the flyovers at Awka, which may or may not be the priority for the state at this point in time given the scarce resources on the country. I was thinking that the Governor should have followed the good work/examples by former governors- Ngige and Obi in the area of roaddevelopment/ connectivity in the state. A greater portion of the Federal government roads in Anambra e.g. Enugu- Onitsha road is a dead trap. The Federal road- Pyramus to the governor's place( Otuocha) was done by Ngige because of its importance to farmers in that area. Since the essence of state and local governments creation is to bring developments at the grassroots levels, please note that I am suggesting he repair the Anambra portion of the Federal government road at this point, because of the slim resources from the federation Allocation Account but should please link roads internally across local governments to bring developments and assist farmers in the state transport their produce at reasonable cost for sale and improve agriculture which the present focus of the Fed. Govt . Some of the roads among others are the one that connects Nsugbe from Nteje where most of the farm produce in Nteje are cultivated. Another one is from Umueri after the Oyi bridge that connects the Enugu-Onitsha expressway at the place they call "slaughter" and to Awkuzu, and to Umunya, the two roads apart from being important to the development of the towns, (like Governor Ngige and Obi did during their tenor which Spurs positive development and interconnectivity between different towns in the affected locality) the farmers will benefit immensely from that connectivity. This is just two roads among others in the old Anambra local government. Another issue is the fact that most villages/towns in the former Anambra local government does not have effective electricity supply, ( including Aguleti his own town until he fixed his alone recently) either because there are no poles, transformers , source of supply, etc , this was one of the good achievement of Chief Nwobido during his tenor under the old Anambra State but it did not get to all the villages then. One would have expected governor Obiano to assess this two key/basic infrastructure requirements of his people in the state with a view to fixing them starting with the towns that have serious deficits in these areas. Water is another thing that Anambra people require , he has not done enough in this area. Lighting up the streets is a good idea for security reasons but is it sustainable using generators, go to Asaba in Delta State, is this model still working there? your guess is as good as mine, and has he considered mini power plants or solar for cost efficiency. If we light up the high ways and the streets/towns where people and the armed robbers live are in dark, the security measure is just a quarter solved as far as this purpose is concerned. Please advise the governor whom I respect a lot as a top ex-banker. I also understand that he still have grudges that he got less vote in some towns/ local govts and has not forgiven as a father. Please let him know that this is democracy and that all Nigerians/states/local did not vote for PMB. The wise thing to do is to put developments in those places for them to change and vote him for the second term. Two wrongs( if it is really wrong, can't make a right. There is even no guarantee that all that voted him in the first tenor will vote him again, that's politics. He should also go and settle with all the people (including his brothers/sisters from his neighboring towns ) that helped him get into power if those people will accept, otherwise second tenor or even senate position mighty be a difficult if not impossible task. This is hard truth that must be told. Am not sure Ifeanyi Uba will do the magic for him vome second tenor bid.

  5. This is to governor Obiano, I respect you a lot as a seasoned banker that retired at a top management level , hence I therefore expected you to use your board room politics experience to fine tune the political games experience to be ahead of other politicans. Honestly, I don't know what Ifeanyi Uba has got to offer you. Where are the timbers n calibers that assisted ( if not installed) you in power from nowhere. Remember that Uba spent a lot of money for his campaigns in last election and you still won the election. I had expected you to at least be in good terms with those that put you in power at least for the first tenor. combine this with good work/achievements would have rideen you on a limousine to your second tenor rather through Uba.

  6. Governor Obiano should please go and reconcile with his "god fathers " in politics and his neighbouring towns which he did nothing for in this his first tenor, they are most likely be more valuable than Ifeanyi Uba. Because is like Obiano has offended the "gods"- powers that brought him to power and thinks Uba who is not a politician can be of help. Well he may give him some $ for his campaign which is necessary but not sufficient condition to win the election. The Governor should re- strategise.
