FG to tackle militancy with 31,000 jobs annually

As part of efforts to tackle the rising wave of insurgency across the country, the Federal Government in partnership with New Era Communication Ltd, says it will create 31, 000 jobs annually to address restive youths in the nation.

The Project Director of Graduate Internship Scheme, GIS, Mr. Dennis Chukwu, stated this at the end of a three-day workshop tagged Career Development Entrepreneurship Skills, organised by the Federal Ministry of Finance in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Represented by Mrs. Josephine Chukwu, the Project Director said that the Federal Government intends to use the workshop to bring youths together and enlighten them on the need to depend less on white collar jobs and go more for jobs that would make them employers of labour.

He said: “The intention of government is to ensure that youths depend less on white collar jobs that make them sit tight, agitating for resource control and all that, if they don’t get it.

“We want to open their eyes to be self reliant and not dependent on government to employ them, and in a way, tackle the rising wave of insurgency in the country which is not profitable to government and the society. So, the essence of this programme is to help them think outside the box and make them see that they don’t need white collar jobs to succeed.” Also speaking, a facilitator at the training,

Mr. Idris Sodiya, explained that the programme started 10 years ago and down the line, the 31, 000 participants out of 41, 000 are exiting the scheme to become self-employed and employers of labour.
