Arsenal star Mesut Ozil has claimed that Super Eagles starlet Alex Iwobi possesses the qualities of Jay-Jay Okocha and Dutch midfielder Edgar Davids.
Iwobi is a nephew of former Nigeria captain Okocha, whose dazzling skills lit up Europe when he played for Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany, Paris Saint Germain in France and Bolton in England.
Davids played for Ajax and Juventus among other big clubs and was one of the best midfielders of his generation.
Iwobi has been in fine form for Arsenal this season and was voted the man of the match when the Gunners defeated Chelsea 3-0 on Saturday.
“He reminds me of his uncle Jay-Jay Okocha. He was a player I loved watching,” Ozil told Arsenal’s matchday programme before their Champions League win over Basel on Wednesday night.
“Alex reminds me of a mixture of him and Edgar Davids. He’s really strong on the ball, also defensively, but he’s good in front of goal too.
“He’s developing really well and if he continues the way he’s been playing for the whole season, he will enhance his game.
Iwobi has made five appearances for the Gunners this term and has also been nominated for the 2016 European Golden Boy award.
