Sultan begs for more international support for Buhari's anti-corruption war

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has solicited for more international support to the ongoing anti-corruption war of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Sultan made the solicitation when he spoke with top United States Officials at the Woodrow Wilson Centre, Washington DC, on Wednesday. This is contained in a statement issued to newsmen in Sokoto on Thursday, signed by Kogunan Sokoto, Malam Danladi Bako.

“The Sultan not only endorsed the war against corruption, but decried the conversion of funds meant for the purchase of arms to fight Boko Haram to personal use by past government official.

“This was done with the connivance of some unscrupulous politicians. Such funds would have enhanced the capacity of the military to fast track the curtailment of insurgency in the north east of Nigeria,” it stated.

According to the statement, the Sultan also urged the international community to support Nigeria with logistics and materials to address humanitarian challenges in the country.

It added: “The sultan implored the international community to be patient with the Buhari administration in its agenda of improving on the economy, as well as the security situation in the country.”

The statement said that the Director of the Centre, Dr Monde Munyagwa, extolled the leadership qualities of the Sultan and thanked him for his tremendous support to U.S agencies working on health and other development issues in Nigeria.

The Woodrow Wilson Centre was designated by the United States Congress as the official memorial to President Wilson and key non-partisan policy forum for tackling global issues, through independent research and open dialogue.
