Ndigbo should stop thinking about Igbo presidency in 2019 – Okorocha

Governor Rochas Okorocha has charged Ndigbo to stop dreaming about a president of Igbo extraction in 2019, as those that served in varying capacities in the past, did little or nothing for Igbos.

Okorocha, who read the riot act yFriday in Owerri, during a post election press briefing, suggested that Igbos should look for people with passion, vision and mission to drive the nation’s wheel of progress. “Ndigbo should stop thinking and talking about Igbo presidency in 2019. They should rather be thinking of someone that has something positive to offer to the people.

We need a president with passion, vision and mission and not mere sentiment”, Okorocha said. After rolling out a litany of Igbo names that occupied what he called “choice public offices” in the past, the Governor however lamented they did nothing tangible for Ndigbo. “Igbos have had people that held choice public offices in the past. They ended up not doing any tangible thing for the people. So, the issue cannot be based on mere sentiment”, Okorocha said.

While congratulating the electorate for electing all the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidates in the last re-run polls, the Governor also said that “what the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, took from us in Chief Ike Ekweremadu will be redressed soonest”.

The Governor argued that “for the National Assembly to continue to have Ekweremadu as the Deputy Senate President is not good for the nation’s democracy and I urge the National Assembly to do the needful now that the South east has an APC senator”.

Answering a question on whether his administration can comfortably continue with the free education policy, Okorocha said: “I have been receiving proposals from concerned people, urging me to reintroduce school fees in our primary schools, to enable government pay salaries. I am seriously considering this option”.

  7. You feel an unqualified senator should replace a quality experienced senator as deputy senate president. May be he would get there and do what! Should the interests of the Igbo race supersede party? Why are talking from both sides of your mouth sir?
