Nigerian Army has described the Niger Delta Avengers as criminals, vowing to crush them. The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Tukur Buratai who spoke after commissioning an apartment for soldiers and a giant size generating set at the 2 Amphibious Brigade in Port Harcourt said the army will not fold its hands and allow the groups to continue to kill its soldiers on locations in the region.
Major General Buratai also called on communities in the region to help the military fish out members of the Niger Delta Avengers in their midst. “They have been attacking our troop locations, killing our soldiers. We will not tolerate them.
We will deal with them according to the law. We will look for them wherever they are. They are not agitating for anything , they are just into crime. Communities should be patriotic enough to expose these criminals.
They have noting to fear. They should help fish out these criminals killing our soldiers, we will not tolerate that. They must come out to help.

Earlier, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin, had commissioned 12 refurbished gunboats at Okrika local government area and a 40 bed space apartment for soldiers in the area. General Olonisakin who was accompanied by other service chiefs to the exercise said security agencies will no longer allow criminals destroy national assets in the region.
Simple solutions. Hand over the oil blocks to the local community. They will have a stake in it and protect it. Stop acting like a colonial force on behalf of the northern elites.

ReplyDeleteHow would you take what doesn't belong to you and to go sleep with your two eyes close. If these oil blocks happen to be in the north, would they not have divided the country before now? However, let's be optimistic in our dealings. Out of 100% oil blocks, the north owned 83% of it. Has the world turn upside down? "Our military shouldn't engage on a foolish fight the cannot win" -food for taught!

I humbly suggest that all the licences of the oil blocks be revoked and such should be allocated to the states, and proper mornitoring team set up to mornitor the implimentation of the revenues.

The Nigerian project or State has never been one and will never be until honest leaders who have the courage to do what is right are in helms of affairs. This present crop of civil war heros will never deliver and Nigeria is very far from getting to the promised land. A land of broad ranging exclusions and you do not want people to talk or fight about it.
ReplyDeleteI am surprised that majority comments actually back this sabotage by the avengers. It is we the ordinary folks that suffer these attacks and the communities these explosions are happening, the environmental problems will be felt for decades. It does not make sense. Even if the Niger Deltan region gets all the oil blocks, do you think the communities will be any better? The leaders will still keep the people impoverished and 99.9% will remain in illiteracy because they are easily influenced and controlled. Nothing will change. So why can't these avengers find a better way to get the message across rather than causing an environmental disaster for their region. It just does not make sense! What is fuelling a lot of this is pure hatred, and in the end the hater gets hurt far more than the hated! It is well with Nigeria!
