North Will Never Discover Oil In Chad Basin – Shehu Sani

The north will never discover oil in the Chad basin of Nigeria even after it has wasted $3 billion, approximately (N900 billion) in oil exploration in the basin, said Senator Shehu Sani, Chairman, Senate Committee on foreign and domestic debts.

Sani, made the above affirmation Monday when members of Kaduna State Students Union paid him a courtesy call in his Kaduna office. This in variance with the position of the Chairman, of the Northern Nigeria Development Company, (NNDC) Alhaji Bashir Dalhatu, who had said last year NNDC would commence the exploration of oil and gas in the said basin and the upper Benue trough. Said Sani: “Oil exploration in the north has been carried out back to days far beyond that of former President Jonathan Goodluck.

I am calling on President Mohamadu Buhari to order a probe into this questionable search for oil. Past leaders have amassed wealth through this venture, and I want the president to investigate this. “If we cannot fine oil, we must get our money back because so far over $3 billion US Dollars had been wasted on oil exploration in the north, particularly in the Chad Basin and Benue trough.

  3. "If we cannot find oil, we must get our money back"
My friend, money spent in searching for oil cannot be recovered unless you find the oil. Shell D'Arcy - the forerunner of today's Shell, lost billions searching for oil, starting from the north-east of Nigeria and working their way down, through the Benue Basin. After several years, it finally found oil in commercial quantities at Oloibiri in today's Rivers State. If Shell D'arcy had not found oil at all, Shell would never have recovered the billions it spent in exploration. The search for oil is the biggest commercial gamble you can undertake. If you strike it in good quantities, you are in money. If you don't, you've lost all! By the way, each well you drill in the hope of striking oil would cost you at least $10m.

  4. It is satanic to tie everything that has failed to Jonathan. Oil exploration in Chad basin dates back to the Shagari era if not earlier. It looks like some people have some Hugh scores to settle with Jonathan and not matters of corruption. They are only using corruption as excuse. Let's be reasonable and fair in leading this nation

  5. I am now convinced that a lot of people have personal scores to settle with Jonathan under the guise of fighting corruption. Oil exploration in Chad basin dates back to the Shagari era if not earlier. Why must we tie anything that fails to Jonathan and call for probe. Power is in your hands. Jail him if you want to. You don't need a kangaroo trial or probe. Jail him and be satisfied. The sky will not fall. Witches and wizards
