David Mark an ‘asset’ to Nigeria – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party says the party and the people of Benue South are solidly behind the former Senate President, David Mark, to repeat his electoral victory in the rerun election ordered by the Court of Appeal.

Mr. Mark’s election as Senator for Benue South constituency was last week annulled by the Court of Appeal sitting in Makurdi, Benue state capital.

The court also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to conduct a fresh election within 90 days.

Mr. Mark, in his reaction to the ruling on Saturday, said he was confident of winning re-election “even if it is held 100 times”.

His party, the PDP, described Mr. Mark as an asset to the nation.

The party said it was assured that the people of Benue South Senatorial zone, as ardent members and supporters of the PDP since 1999, would remain steadfast in giving him another resounding victory at the rerun election.

The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, in a statement on Monday said the confidence of the party of retaining the senatorial seat was even stronger now that the “deceit” of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has become obvious to all Nigerians.

The PDP said the inexplicable ruling of the Appeal Court, even when all evidence pointed to Mr. Mark’s victory as upheld by the lower tribunal, was yet another evidence of the APC’s dangerous interference in the judiciary.

The party also hailed Mr. Mark’s “significant contributions” in growing and stabilizing the nation’s democracy through his mature, responsible and patriotic leadership of the Senate.

The PDP therefore urged its members in Benue South to resist “any attempt to intimidate them, especially in their determination to ensure effective and result-oriented representation in the Senate as typified in Senator Mark”.

  1. Mr Metuh is only speaking for himself, certainly not the people of Benue South (Zone C). Mr Mark has never won any clean election in the zone, his victories have always been in the courts unfortunately this time he has met judges that are not ready to play ball. In the real sense the people of the zone will not miss him, he has never really been their representative in the Senate, his constituency has always been the Senate itself and his family. For most of us in the zone its good riddance for long standing rubbish that we have finally got off our back!

  2. Win if the election is held 100 times? Maybe in his dream! Definitely not in Benue South. The people have hard enough of the deceit & greed.
