REVEALED: See full list of 83 senators who passed vote of confidence on Saraki

As the 8th Senate, on Tuesday, resumed from its 4th recess in 110 days, no fewer than 83 Senators passed a vote of confidence on the leadership of the embattled Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, amidst rowdy session.

Despite Saraki’s trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) over alleged corrupt practices and false declaration of assets, he initially got the backing of 84 of his colleagues. But as the Chairman, Senate Committee on Business and Rules, Babajide Omowarare (APC-Osun East), backed out, 83 Senators threw their weight behind Saraki.

The proposal titled: “Vote of Confidence on Principal Officers of the Senate,” in pursuant to Orders 42 and 52 of the Senate Standing Order 2015, had the names of 48 Senators from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and 35 from the majority All Progressives Congress (APC).

Senator David Umaru (APC-Niger East), was the one who read the Vote Of Confidence motion on the floor of the Red Chamber.

  3. I'm happy the majority of the senators are behind Saraki. The executive need to start respecting the independence of the legislature. Obasanjo and Jonathan's administrations didn't go this far despite their shortcomings. You can only impeach a Speaker or a Senate President only when the members of the House are willing to!

  4. Thanks @Bioye, very reasonable post. It's baseless posting all these names. Is the poster saying the Senators are supporting Saraki because he's corrupt or so. Nigerians are loosing it and embracing sentimentalism. These men are good enough to know who should lead them. A Senate President is one for all not just for APC. EVERYONE please climb down ur moral high horse for once. Nobody is perfect. Be guided. Thank you!

  6. These rogues are not to be taken seriously. They will pass a vote of confidence in the devil, as long as the devil has the funds to dish out to them. Saraki after decades of family theft and corruption, has more resources at his disposal than Nigeria's annual budget. How can such a person be senate president at a time when the country is trying to fight corruption. That tells you how rotten Nigeria is. If Abacha was alive, the same group would pass a resounding vote of confidence in him. Stupid nation!

  7. I remember late Nelson Mandela once remarked that Nigerians knew their leaders were cheating them and yet did not protest. We need not after all since the culture of corruption is not peculiar to leaders; it's a trait shared by both the leader and the led. We are all witnesses to the episode of the coming-out-of-jail of Bode George which was met with pomp and dancing by party loyalists.

The case of Saraki is of a graver dimension in which the led are aggrieved but with flinching support by members of the same cult of rogues. Going by the thinking of the wise,'' if you want peace prepare for war''. This just the right time to tell the leaders that they were voted to serve not to enrich themselves at the expense of the public. The Labor Union should set every machinery in motion to fight against corruption in all its facets.

    1. you wrote my mind. most of the time we know that these people steal the public money but instead of speaking out we sing praises in the name of the kobo that will be given to us. I thought we are more informed but i was wrong. I urge Nigerians to stand up against corruption and injustice.

    1. Why don't you study the list very well. Majority of the names you see there are PDP senators. You can easily visualize the game plan.
