Northern Agenda?: Nigerians outraged over Buhari's new appointments

Nigerians have started reacting to the new appointments made by President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday in the following offices: SGF, Chief of Staff among other appointments.

NigerianEye's investigation revealed that many Nigerians are outraged over President Buhari’s recent appointment, insinuating that the president has a Northern agenda, and favours them according to appointments, while the South is relatively ignored.

Yesterday, Buhari appointed the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief of Staff. Comptroller-General, Nigerian Customs Service, Comptroller-General, Nigerian Immigration Service, Senior Special Assistant on National Assembly Matters (Senate); SSA to National Assembly Matters (House of Representatives) on Thursday as announced by his aide Femi Adesina.

The new appointments below...

  • Engr. Babachir David Lawal – Secretary to the Government of the Federation

  • Alhaji Abba Kyari – Chief of Staff to the President

  • Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (rtd.) – Comptroller-General, Nigerian Customs Service

  • Mr. Kure Martin Abeshi – Comptroller-General, Nigerian Immigration Service

  • Senator Ita S.J. Enang – SSA to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate)

  • Hon. Suleiman A. Kawu – SSA to the President on National Assembly Matters (House of Representatives)

Though there are other ethnics listed among the newly named positions, Some Nigerians believed that the President is biased by appointing the most important positions to the North.

  7. Please no body should weep for us Igbos. We are the cause of our problems. Remember, Ike Ekweremadu usurped what does not belong to him and yet we want to participate in Buhari's government. It is because of Ike Ekweremadu's inordinate ambition that the Igbos are suffering now in this government. Weep no more my brothers and sisters. We are the architect of our misfortunes. God bless Nigeria.

  10. i hav not commented before but this present move is an indication of President Buhari Motive for us. I campaigned for his election and his subsequent emergence. but i pray he dont allowed his fanaticism to destroy our united nation. we need prayers for Buhari

However, it can be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari last month dismissed insinuations that he was implementing a northern agenda in his appointments.

Although many people will disagree.

What are your thought?

  1. Only if these appointments will reduce poverty in the north. What is the fate of almajiri school started by GEJ?

  2. If Nigeria was not a country depending on oil coming from 1 region only, then maybe nobody would have complained about these appointments. But Nigeria depends on crude which comes from the South South. For somebody to appoint majority from regions which contribute nothing to this income and claim there is no agenda is to insult us and deny the obvious. I am from south south and I voted Buhari. I must say, I am dissapointed by these appointments. Buhari had the chance to make the world know that Nigeria can work well without tribal undertone, but he seems to be blowing away that opportunity.

We never complained, is on record pls go and check about 68 parastatals during GEJ are southerners and less than 10 is occupied by Northerners and heaven didn't fall. So why all this stupid noise for not more 15appointments, u want to crucify PMB. After all u didn't made him but u want to make him. Cool down PMB will reach out to u, he is for everybody

He retired Hundreds of Northerners in the Nigerian Armed forces, we have our records. Pls allow PMB to work for Nigeria n not to start this blind critics that has negative motives towards our President. 3. Anonymous 7.35am, you're very stupid for calling somebody you know nothing about shallow, the guy made some points there, yet the only thing you saw was Super Eagles, how can we talk about unity when most of us are too concerned about where the next person comes from rather than who would do a good job that would benefit every one of us. People like you are just too desperate to display their ignorance, ode

  7. I am Igbo and do not understand what the noise is all about. How many of those Igbos appointed in the past did anything for us, apart from amassing stupendous wealth for themselves and family members? Why would we Igbos even expect a representation of up to 10% in this government when we so foolishly gave >90% of our votes to the PDP? What was the intention of all the hateful comments on PMB on social media, calling him an Almajiri, terrorist, Boko Haram, illiterate and so on - now we want this same man to appoint our brothers into an 'almajiri, terrorist' government? Do we have no shame? Governance and leadership can also come from a vibrant opposition, which is what the West did when GEJ was president (even though they voted massively for him in 2011, he 'marginalized' them in his appointments). PMB has shown so much vision by appointing Ibe Kachikwu as GMD NNPC, and I did not hear any cries of marginalization when this happened. His appointments must reflect his party's base - the North and South West. Simple!!!

    2. Igbo people are too proud . Support the president and if his methods fail then insult him and vote him out . Dont let pride ruin you because you will have kids who will grow up and ask you questions you will be too ashamed to answer. Eg daddy were those appointees Nigerians?

  8. Plz stop comparing issues of political and ministerial appointments to ethnic groups that have been represented in the national team in the past or even in the present, it doesn't tell good of your ability to make rational contributions to pressing national issues.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I don't understand what all the noise is about, it's only natural for a man to work with a group of people he would trust and most likely people tend to favour their own more and this happens in all works of life. Where I worked, we got a new MD from Benue and then came the influx of Benue people, before then the company was referred to as an Igbo company because there were too many Igbo people there, the former MD was Igbo. Even in European football, employ a dutch coach, he would bring dutch players, spanish coach-spanish players, German coach-german ptayers etc. I bet if PMB was Igbo there would be more Igbo appointees, even GEJ did same when he was president. Just like someone commented about the Super Eagles which is dominated by the southerners, whenever they win, they whole country celebrates and not just one part, rather than make noise about this, we should hope and pray that the appointees do their jobs diligently and bring about a better Nigeria

  10. PMB I "ve got to advice you . It was this inbalance in federal appointments that made SW to dump PDP and same made SE and SS to die with PDP . Please be generous by appointing equal and compitents hands from all geo - political zones so that we can identify with you in our various localities

  11. Y Col Hamidu Ali (rtd) as controlar General custom service?. GMB is only trying to plead thoes that sponsored his election. Y not look for a fresh person as means of employment instead of recycling.

  12. If u complain so much about northerners not being on the super Eagles, pls go teach them how to play a better football and dnt compare that with pmbs appointments.

  13. It is all part of CHANGE

    ReplyDelete
  14. Some people just open there mouth and talk any how coz they enjoy freedom of speech and information. those who make the most noise are the people whose family or relatives were actually ignore in these "free for all" appointments. on the other hand majority of Nigerians believe in the success of the present administration irrespective of where his (buhari) appointment goes to.

    ReplyDelete
  15. This is just the beginning. Nigeria should expect more than that in the future and I will laugh at the southerners when the time comes especially South West. You are the architect of your problem. Stop blaming our dear President. Mr. president carry go. I am ok with anyone you appoint so far we will see good governance. The only pleading I will plead with Mr. President is that he should not be a dictator. When fighting corruption he should include the APC members that are corrupt (eg Fmr Governor Fashiola and Tinubu). This will make it clear that he is not fighting his political enemies but he is fighting corruption. Gov Fashiola probe should not be delayed because he clearly defaulted. I support Mr. President to the end but he should probe both the PDP members and APC members with no patiality in the judgement. The case should be televised in national television so that we will all see it. I call all Nigerians to support Mr. President but call for equal treatment to APC and PDP looters.

  16. Lets give president time to see what will come out of these appointments. If by these appointments things change positively all well and good no matter who is in those position of authority.
But i will not forget to comment that since Buhari assume office food stuffs has escalated and there is considerable increase in power supply. WE NEED TANGIBLE AND VISIBLE CHANGE.

  17. Anybody can say what they like, for me the only president I would always respect is formal president Olusegun Obasanjo. The man is different with many unique leadership qualities. Formal president Obasanjo is highly untribalistic man and that is well he's well appreciated all over the world and I believe he sincerely loves Nigeria. I strongly believe there is reward for everything. If president Buhari is sincere and means well he would be vindicated at the end of the day. My question is that who are those that have ruled Nigeria for decades and brought us to the present situation?
