Extend probe to Obasanjo’s govt, SSANU tells Buhari

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities on Friday urged President Muhammadu Buhari to extend the probe of corrupt public office holders to the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The President of SSANU, Mr. Samson Ugwoke, warned Buhari against sparing anybody involved in the looting of the country’s resources.

Ugwoke made the comment while delivering an address at a meeting of the National Executive Council and pre-National Delegates’ Conference of SSANU in Jos, Plateau State.

He said while SSANU was in full support of the fight against corruption, the President should avoid being selective in the on-going probe.

He urged Buhari to ensure that all those responsible for the looting of the country since the commencement of democratic governance in 1999 were brought to book.

Ugwoke lamented that oil wells were shared among individuals, who had become richer than the country.

According to him, the oil wells were distributed to a privileged few by virtue of the political offices they occupied and not because of their capacities.

He said, “The present administration seems to be pursuing an anti-corruption war. Corruption has killed this country. We have heard of billions and trillions of Naira being looted by officers of government and all of them stashed away, not even in our country; not even in our own banks.

“They use Nigerian money to grow and improve the economies of other countries, leaving us in poverty. SSANU supports the fight against corruption but with a caveat that Mr. President should pursue whoever has stolen our money to return it to our coffers.

“The probe of the looters should not be selective; it should be total; that is the stand of SSANU. It should be total and be extended to 1999, so that those who have killed this country since 1999 would be brought to book.”

The SSANU President also urged the President to revoke the oil licences in the country and set up a commission to preside over them.

He stressed that money generated from the oil wells should be paid into the Federation Account rather than into the private accounts to enrich a few people.

    1. Well said, that is why he is throwing himself on GMB so as to evade probe. OBJ is very clever. He parades himself as the Headmaster of all administrations in this country. He criticizes all governments and yet he is the worst offender. If President Buhari will have the guts to probe OBJ,I am sure he would be shocked to see the worst corrupt cases in this country, but I am afraid GMB would not like to venture into that because as former retired military officers they would not like to expose themselves.

    2. Please Mr President be careful with all those who want you not to achieve anything than probe. I'm in support of probe start with Outgoing administration. These same people told GEJ to make same demand . If they have evidences and wish to fight corruption they should send their petitions to EFCC
