Haruna Jauro takes over as NIMASA boss

Mr Haruna Jauro has formally taken over from Mr Calistus Obi as acting Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency.

This is contained in a statement made available to newsmen on Monday in Lagos by the Deputy Director and Head, Public Relations of NIMASA, Mr Isichei Osamgbi.

The statement said the handover ceremony took place on Monday, July 27.

It explained that Obi pledged his loyalty to the acting director-general and urged all staff of the Agency to support Jauro.

According to the statement, Obi has assured that the excellent working relationship between him and the acting director-general will be sustained in order to lift NIMASA to greater heights.

The statement noted that Jauro had expressed gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari for the opportunity to serve the nation in his new capacity.

He thanked staff of the Agency for their commitment to duty and sought their cooperation toward the realisation of the mandate of the Agency.

He said, “I want to thank staff of NIMASA for their commitment to the objectives of this Agency and crave your cooperation so that together, we can actualise the objectives for which the Agency was set up.”

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that until his appointment, Jauro was the Executive Director, Finance and Administration in the Agency.

Meanwhile, Jauro is to oversee the affairs of the Agency until a substantive director-general is appointed.

  2. Every appointment is coming from the North. We are not bothered but why we are disturbed is the inability to effect the much publicised CHANGE. Why do you people still tell us "We will.... We will..." We need action stop behaving as if you are still campaigning.

    1. is this change of the highly corrupt and criminalized head of the agency not a sign of change? The one will not give the surveillance of our waterways to criminal like Tompolo/ Asari.

  3. Jauro is actually the most senior Exec. Director but the Permanent Secretary made a deliberate error by sending Obi's name instead of Jauro. This action is just to correct the wrong. Let us see who the Substantive DG will be.

  5. Let everybody be objective, for once. Lets not be sentimental about every national issue. First I am Yoruba, so I'm not fanning any tribal amber for anyone. The issue is this, when the last DG was directed to proceed on retirement, he was asked to hand over to the next in line, in terms of hierarchy. Either intentionally or otherwise, he handed over to a wrong person. So it was natural that the affected officer petitioned the office of the head of service, for resolution. It was then that proper checks were made into the staff records and proper thing done. So how does this translate to any northern agenda as some people are trying to make you us believe?

  6. And how do you know that jauro is the next in line or do you think that the formal DG is as foolish as you and your President

  7. @Anonymous 11:01, you may be the fool as you have correctly insinuated. If not, why would a supposed "subordinate" protest the usurping of his rights, if he wasn't sure he was fighting a just cause. Your brother actually wanted to raise another tribal war by handing over to a wrong person in the first place. And if its not that both of them are rogues and thieves, why wouldn't he know that he's not the next in line, after all both of them have been in the civil service for such a long time to know who is who.
