Buhari will reverse corruption in Nigeria - Emir Sanusi

The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II has expressed confidence on the ability of President Muhammadu Buhari to reverse corruption in the country.

Sunusi II who spoke against startling revelation by Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole when he received in audience members of Kano State Public Complaints and Anti Corruption Commission that an ex-Minister who served in the President Goodluck Jonathan administration allegedly stole the sum of $6bn, described the action as outrageous.

The former Apex Bank Governor said “But with the high sense of responsibility and doggedness of our dear President Muhammadu Buhari, I am optimistic that things will change for better. I am very hopeful that Mr President will do everything possible to fight corruption to a standstill, “.

The monarch lamented that it is disheartening for the Nigeria global rating on areas of corruption, but reminded the citizenry that it is the duty of all and sundry to collaborate with government to check the scourge.

He stressed “It is disheartening to see that Nigeria is one of the countries in the world that are leading in corrupt practices. We should understand that fighting corruption is not only for government, but a collaborative effort,”

The Emir said that the mind boggling fund believed to have been stolen by an individual has the temerity to collapse the economy, adding that it was unfortunate that an individual can commit such crime against the state.

Sanusi further expressed shock on how contractors conduct their businesses under shoddy arrangements, noted that such brazen impunity against the economy must be checked.

He therefore enjoined the Commission to understand that their duty needed collaboration with commitment from other sectors of the society, stressing that the duty before them was tedious.
Sanusi II said “your work should not only look at what is happening at bottom position in the society. You should start from the top that whoever is found wanting he or she should be dealt with severely. You should also not consider party affiliation while doing your work.”

He admonished “If you want to succeed in your newly assigned responsibility you must be ready to deal with corrupt officials. Fighting against corruption starts from the top not from the bottom, ” .
Earlier, the Executive Chairman of Kano State Public Complaints and Anti Corruption Commission revealed that they were at the palace to seek blessing and guidance from the Emir, as he emphasised that they would always run to the Emir for guidance in the course of their duties.

Magaji further revealed that the Commission would establish offices in all the 44 local governments of the state for good facilitation of their work.
