You can’t hold us responsible for your loss, PDP tells Jonathan

Thirty-six days after the March 28 Presidential election, National leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Monday said that President Goodluck Jonathan should not hold the National Working Committee, NWC, responsible for losing the presidential election.

Addressing Journalists , Monday, in Abuja, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh while exonerating the party from Jonathan’s failure, stressed that the defeat was because the party and its leadership were not carried along and their advice was ignored.

Metuh who noted that hate campaign by the Presidential Campaign Committee resulted in the failure of the party, said that members of the NWC did not play any significant role in the 2015 presidential campaign of the party, adding that the abysmal performance ‎of the party in the north was a result of the hate campaign adopted by the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation against the APC and its presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, retd.

Reacting to an online report that NWC members shared part of the presidential campaign funds among themselves, said the NWC was never involved in the disbursement of campaign funds, revealed that the party spent over N4 billion to sponsor their candidates in the presidential, governorship, National Assembly and the House of Assemblies elections.

Metuh said, “we did not lead the party to failure, we were not involved in the campaigns and our advice was ignored. If we had handled the campaign, Mr. President would have won the election. We cannot be held responsible when our advise was ignored.

  1. Super story. PDP will definitely give a million and one reasons why they lost this election. Truth is that untill PDP realise their failure is because of non performance. The Goodluck Jonathan led administration lacks focus and zeal to rule this country. The man is a Rucky and found it difficult to take charge.

  3. Things have fallen apart and the centre can no longer hold. Shame on PDP. Just one lost after 16years and the party is already in disarray. Femi Fani Kayode and the okrika woman were the cause of jonathan's problem at the pool. It's not all the time that money can win election.

  5. Technology has helped to improve the electoral process in Nigeria. PDP tried to eliminate card readers from all polling units but failed.

In the same way, if we give technology a chance, corruption will be seriously reduced in Nigeria.

    1. And it was APC that introduced Card reader. Talking with ur 2 mouth

    2. APC introduced the card reader? Was APC the same as INEC? And what was wrong with using the card reader anyway? So you would rather let people vote with fake cards manufactured by crooks? I suspect you were one of those crooks. How about having ATMs that do not verify the genuineness of your ATM card before disbursing cash? Would that be fine?

  6. Even if it's John the Baptist or Mohammed that came to do the campaign for PDP, u guys will still loose! And yes the hate campaign contributed too, plus the billions didn't go round. The wise ones enriched themselves bcos they know even if they spend the money, it will be a big waste. You have to work to win election! Nigeria is evolving, Nigerians have grown sense, except for few PDP blind followers, I pity them

  7. Until our leaders learn to take responsibility for performance or non-performance, we'll always witness this blame trading. Perhaps for the first time, however, Chief Metuh is saying the truth. PDP Presidential campaign organsation should have tried to show Nigerians their principal's performance scorecard instead of barking like dogs! Fani Kayode and his leaking mouth plus the Dame Patience mis-yarning put paid to any chances that Jona would perform any better than he did.

    1. You got it spot-on! It is sad that PDP eRats like Fani-Kayode, Fayose and Okupe did not understand that hate campaigns do not win elections in civilised societies. I doubt if these men have actually learnt the lesson, even after PDP has lost. You still read in these online media, these people and their clones, insulting Buhari and calling a General an "illiterate", and asking for his WASC certificate. They don't know that the more such noise and insults they publish, the more popular Buhari would become.
The northern part of Nigeria is largely feudalistic. They rally round their leaders, hold them in high esteem and perhaps even venerate them. Any political party that hopes to win an election through a hate campaign against a northerner is doomed. That was what happened to PDP.

  8. A house divided against itself shall stand! This is the new slogan I'll urge PDP to adopt.
Just like the Ota General, 'I dey laugh'
I rest my case, till 2019. Atondu Akaan

  9. Jonathan failed because he failed to perform in all ramifications. He failed because he had no achievement to show for his sic years, instead, his attack dogs kept attacking Buhari and made him so popular. He is sorrounded with people of questionable character. Pdp is dead and buried. All eyes on Apc.

    1. Very true. Sadly, Jonathan did not realise that those "attack dogs" (very apt description!) were only "doing their job", as they later confessed after their principal lost the election. They were attacking Buhari as mercenaries because they needed the money, not because they really believed in Jonathan. They knew Jonathan had not performed as President. But Jonathan had deep pockets and would keep the $$$$ flowing in, while Buhari had nothing. So they were happy to keep saying black was white.

  12. Gentlemen and ladies including the anonymous commentators, Nigeria is on the path of real development now. Democracy has come to stay in our dear country and no one can circumvent it if Nigerians are as resolute as we did in the last general election. I will advise that we should be warming up to take our electoral process to the next level by adopting electronic voting system. If APC should mess up their opportunity, they will be flushed out in the next general election and replaced by another party but definitely, not PDP. We have not seen any crack in PDP. Please wait till GEJ hands over on Friday May 29th and you will see the real colour of all those "great supporters" of GEJ.

  13. I wish to make it categorically clear to APC that we did not vote for them bcos they met the taste of Nigerians. Its simply bcos they are about the only alternative to GEJ and his PDP. It was obvious that just any party will floor PDP in a free and fair election considering their performance at both Federal and State levels. I therefore urge APC to put the interest of Nigerians above personal interest to enable the party to be fully acceptable to Nigerians. It is only then that they can be sure of remaining in Aso Rock for a long time. We want to see less corruption and massive industrialization leading to creation of millions of jobs within a short time. The power sector must however be sincerely revamped before industries can be revived. Goodluck Nigeria!

  14. GEJ lost because of non performance and hate campaign by his campaign managers.

  15. I am happy for my country. Nigeria is on the road to greatness but we all have work to do.In my opinion we need to do the following.
    1. Let us use the power of technology to keep APC on their toe , by constantly monitoring their development programs from the ward level to federal level. 2 We need to move our electoral system to next level by embracing technology so that our votes could count and use the power of vote to kick out any non performing government out of power. 3. Let us hold our leaders accountable for their responsibility, and lastly get involve, known what is going on your localty, know your councillor. Know your chairman and .use your phone camera and recording facilities to disseminate information about happenings in your area. Ask questions about Billions of naira shared every months from our common wealth..Federation account. Etc. Let us come together to make our country great.
