REVEALED: Thousands of foreign currency found on Boko Haram leader – Nigerian Military


The Nigerian military has said it found wads of foreign currency on a top Boko Haram leader killed during an operation in Mafa, Borno State.

The military did not release the identity of the militant.

Defence Spokesperson, Chris Olukolade, said thousands of Euros were found on the terrorist after troops of the Nigerian army repelled an attack by the group.



“The terrorist who is also an Amir by status and believed to be of foreign descent, is among about 30 terrorist fighters who died in the encounter while many others fled with wounds,” he said.

Mr. Olukolade said the terrorists lost a number weapons and equipment to the military including the captured 13 rifles, a machine gun, rocket propelled grenade tubes and several other assorted ammunition.

Also, a Toyota Buffalo vehicle was recovered from the terrorists while two of their armoured vehicles were also destroyed in the battle, the spokesperson said.

Mr. Olukolade said troops got their equipment damaged.

He said mop up operation was ongoing in the area with a continuing offensive on all terrorists’ hideouts.

  1. One question - where were our security organizations (military inclusive), when these guys were bringing in these weapons, assuming there were not the ones seized from our military? There was a complete absence of national security I think, with all the budgeted money for security and defense.
