Soldier crushed to death while crossing the road in Bauchi



A 27-year-old private in the Nigerian Army, John Emmanuel, attached to Sector 1, Baga road in Maiduguri, Borno State, was on Sunday killed on the Bauchi-Darazo highway while crossing the road to relieve himself.

A statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer in charge of the Bauchi State Command, Haruna Mohammed, said the soldier was traveling in a Sharon mini-van, before he stopped to ease himself.

The soldier was hit by another bus as he crossed the road to ease himself.



Mr. Mohammed said the accident occurred at about 2:50p.m. He said police officers from Darazo Division rushed the victim to the Darazo General Hospital in Darazo, where he was confirmed dead.
“Accident occurred when one No 13NA/70/6061 Private John Emmanuel male and 27 years of Nigeria Army attached to Sector 1 Baga road, Maiduguri, Borno State, who was also a passenger in a Sharon bus with registration number AA 992 KWR stopped to ease himself but was hit by a red Sharon bus with registration number AE 436 PKM while crossing the road,” the police spokesperson said.'

“Scene of accident was visited by police patrol team attached to Darazo division and victim was rushed to general hospital Darazo for medical attention where he was certified dead on arrival by a medical doctor,” DSP Mohammed stated.

He said the body of the soldier was later released to the Army through one Captain Maiwada in charge of the Army Unit in Darazo.

He said the driver of the offending van was arrested, while investigation had begun.
