ABIA STATE: Stalemate as Governor convinces collating officer to reverse decision #AbiaDecides

The Abia State governorship election has reached a stalemated following a dispute over results from the Ngwa stronghold of Okezie Ikpeazu of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

As earlier reported, Alex Otti of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) was leading in six out of the 11 local announcements declared.

The stalemate arose when APGA raised strong objections to the announcement of results from Osisioma, Obingwa and Isiala Ngwa North, leading to the Collating Officer’s decision to cancel them due to violence and electoral malpractice.

This, however, did not go down well with the PDP, which insisted on the acceptance of the results but with the cancellation of specific polling units where there was confirmed violence and ballot box snatching.

After a visit to the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by Governor Theodore Orji, the Collating Officer reversed his decision and announced that the Ngwa results would be announced but with cancellation of 29 polling units where troubled was recorded. Thereafter, the Osisioma result was announced and was won by Ikpeazu, thus giving him the majority votes.

APGA, however, strongly resisted attempts to proceed with results from Obingwa and Isiala Ngwa North.

Apart from these two, results from three other local governments are still pending.

  1. Jega should call the inec rep to question, and it shows how compromised his rep can be.A sitting Goverrnor should never have been entertained by a Rep.It calls for suspicion and makes the whole voting exercise a joke

  2. Is so worrisome that a state with just 17 local governments is stretching INEC . Thorough investigations should be made before announcing the results to forestall an impending anarchy.

  3. Maybe the INEC officer does not understand the meaning of 'independent' in INEC. Am ashamed of my governor even though he is not ashamed of himself. Rigging is his surname.

  4. The Nattional INEC should interfare in this matter by cancelling the election in Abia state because there was no election. they should reschedule a new date for the election with strong security personnels because the PDPs uses intimidation to oppose masses from coming out to vote for their choice candidate especially in Obingwa L.G A

  5. For God's sake, why would T.A.Orji, Abaribe, Akobundu, Onyema Ugochukwu and Olisa Metuh be in INEC office during the announcement of election results?. What did they went there to do?. A sitting governor visiting INEC office during election result announcement?. Please Prof. Jega, EFCC, ICPC and the IGP should ask them to explain what they went there to do. Is the electoral law so loose to allow these be in the INEC result announcement centre?. Abia state is under lunatic occupation of T.A.Orji and company that wants to continue to punish the good and God fearing people of Abia State and every well meaning Nigerian should come to the aid of Abia people at this time. God will bless all those that is standing up to challenge these evil people plotting against the progress of Abia people.
