Nigeria ranks 187 out of 190 in Healthcare

World Health Organization’s Ranking of the World’s Health Systems ranks nigeria a lowly 187 out of 190 sampled countries.

Well, we used to be one of the best.... Back in 1960, The Ashby Commission on Higher education at Independence described higher education in Nigeria as good as the very best in the world. Sir Eric Ashby indeed suggested that in 1962 it was easier to get into Harvard than the University of Ibadan, and the University College Hospital, Ibadan was ranked Third best in the Commonwealth, ahead of most Teaching Hospitals in Britain. Saudi Princes came there with Health challenges but in recent times our President, Umaru Yar’adua all but died in a Saudi Hospital. It is no wonder a Professor of medicine from the University of Lagos, Professor Tayo, recently described our health care system as a ‘’man made disaster”.

It is miracle how we were able to battle the Ebola scourge.

  1. President Jonathan and PDP should react to this. Are you also going to blame APC for this?

  2. We all know this is not true. Given the chance, they will rate Liberia over us. Whatever metrics they used is far from reality. They same people who commended us over ebola. What health issues in Nigeria will warrant such Rating. Let them be decieving themselves far their evil motives

  3. well, Liberia is rated over us in general. The war agaisnt Ebola was won because the Lagos state Govt and rivers state govt have good health facilities. Imagine if Ebola broke out in a remote area. or somewhere in the north.

Our health system really needs to improve as a country, it is presently very bad.

  4. I hope we all know this is a YEAR 2000 rating.
