English Premier League Sells TV Broadcast Rights For Over £5.1billion

The English Premier League (EPL) is set to gross over $7 billion from its latest sale of domestic rights.

It was announced Tuesday that pay-TV broadcaster Sky have retained the largest proportion of the televised matches, while their rival  BT Sport has been awarded the
remaining packages.

The deal is said to last for three seasons from 2016-2019 and it covers 168 live matches per season, with Sky to show 126 games, including Friday night matches for the first time, and BT Sports getting the remaining 42 matches.

This represents a massive increase on the $4.59B paid by the same broadcasters to acquire the equivalent set of rights from 2013-16 and will make the EPL the second richest league in the world behind the National Football League (NFL) in the United States.
