Buhari Meets Jonathan’s Loyalists In Paris

The Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Muhammadu Buhari, may have held a secret meeting last night with some loyalists of President Goodluck Jonathan in Paris, sources said from the French capital.

Buhari left Nigeria on Thursday morning officially to hold meetings with key members of the British political class and interact with some global institutions.

But sources said he might have gone to Paris first to meet with some close allies of Jonathan who are seeking reassurance that they won’t be jailed by a Buhari presidency.

It was learnt that Bola Tinubu, an APC leader, two Nigerian former heads of state and a wealthy Lebanese family with extensive business interests in Nigeria may have been part of the people brokering the deal in Paris during a meeting on Thursday night.

The meeting was arranged by a foreign power in Nigeria that seems to have written off President Jonathan.

The negotiations, it was learnt, are based on the fear in Jonathan’s circle that Buhari will try and convict all of the top people in the Jonathan administration who are known to have stolen a lot of cash from the nation’s treasury.

It was learnt that Buhari and the top leadership of APC may be considering amnesty for some of them if he is eventually elected on 28 March.

The discussions are referred to as the Brazillian model, a type of deal where the president offers amnesty and asks the thieves to bring home the money stolen and invest it in the economy.

  4. This is all APC media ochestrated propaganda to stir sentiments and to cast aspersions on the personality of president Jonathan. The truth be told. ALL This anti-corruption chant by the opposition party APC is just to malign the president. Corruption can never end abruptly. Because it was a systemic process that was bred long ago and has being an indivisible part of human culture. I think corruption cannot be stopped but the way to go about it is a complete reversal of the cycle. Which is a deliberate effort at building institution, processes that will be hard for corruption to succeed. As an objective follower, of mr president i think he is well advised in this area... as for the corruption jingoism of the APC i dont buy that. Only the unlearned will be gullible in this regard. GOD BLESS NIGERIA

    1. Mr man .. You need to think properly before writing. Check your dictionary for the words "optimist" and "pessimist" . Then you can decide for yourself the category you fall into... because corruption abounds, shall we continue in it? The least we can do here is try to stop it! And that is why Nigerian mass are crying for change! If GMB fails, he will also be voted out! My friend wake up !

    2. Inasmuch as i will like to agree with you that corruption should be stopped . I think i should use the word curb because corruption cannot be stopped but only curbed. I am not an apostle of corruption, i preach against it too. But all i am saying is that we should try to be factual in our reasoning. This is an era of knowledge, we are past the age of campaigns of calumny that is targeted at the less informed. Only time will tell

    3. All those governors and party stalwarts with Buhari; are they saints? Are they corruption free? The contemplation of jail should start with them. Buhari may not have been too corrupt, but he cannot be a saint. Perhaps he may do the worst if he succeeds in coming again. I will take him serious if he promises to first sanitize his APC strong men of corruption emanating from past loot.

    4. Yes I agree. Buhari can only curb but not stop corruption. Corruption can only be stopped by Christ. Buhari has no power to stop corruption and no body have that power but God alone. I assume Buhari is not fully literate and did not know that he can only reduce not completely eradicate corruption. Buhari is playing on the intelligence of Nigerians.

    5. From your comments, I am really sure you do not know Buhari well, you will be shocked at the things he will do about corruption. he may not jail them but they will definitely return most of their loot if not all.

    6. Goodday all, i have read with keen interest everyone's response to this issue and have come to agree with everyone. however, i still want us to know that even God knows that we as humans have the ability to sin and when we do we should reproach it and desist from it. no GEJ is a president that encourages corrupt practises under his watch. he keeps quite while his sorbodinate loot the treasury of Nigeria clean. In the history of Nigeria, subsidy on petroleum product grew tremedously, pump price was increased by about 50% yet the government still pays subsidy. a serving minister used N10b to hire jet in 1 year and nothing was said about it by the presidency. imagine if all ministers are to spend N10b each yearly on jets, how many trilion would we be looking at. the nation has no national carrier yet the president has about 7 jets in his fleet and still desirous of getting another. There is God o.

  18. "The journey of thousand kilometers starts with a step and he who fails to plan, plans to fail". If you expect Buhari to win election before planning, then you should reflect again on my first quotation. Do you know that my dear President GEJ is not leaving any stone unturned. Each of them will make most of the opportunity afforded by the six week postponement of the general election. Both GEJ & GMB are busy consulting both internal and foreign stakeholders that controls our economy.

  19. Experience is a good teacher. Past and present events can help in making predictions about the future. In 1999, we were not sure of who would win the presidential election between OBJ and Falae until after the election but from 2003 we could predict who would win even before the election. In 2003, we knew OBJ would win his 2nd term. In 2007, we knew late Umaru Yar'Adua would win. In 2011, we knew Dr. Goodluck Jonathan would win. So, why is it difficult for some people to see the handwriting on the wall that all things being equal, by God's grace, retired MGMB will win 2015 election?

  22. Fellow Nigerians, instead of insulting one another in our show of support for either Jonathan or Buhari, it is high time we tackled issues and not personalities. This forum might not be ok enough to enunciate my points but I have this to say: if we say Jonathan has not tackled corruption and boko haram, we must be aware that the APC is just an old wine in new wine skin. The corrupt but aggrieved PDP members who deflected because of disagreement in the share of the loot of our collective resources and the corrupt ACN leaders join forces to constitute a formidable APC to challenge the status quo (PDP). The change that this crop of politicians crave for is power shift & not necessarily structural, intellectual, economic or sociocultural change. It is merely change in the direction of primitive accumulation of wealth into the hands of the ruling oligarchy. On the other hand, If you say Jonathan is slow in combating terrorism, then Buhari is slower in terms of sensitivity to security, or how would you explain the fact that Idiagbon, the second in command, was more vibrant, charismatic and outspoken than Buhari, the then head of state. And Babangida only overthrew government when Idiagbon was on pilgrimage to Mecca. He (knew) Buhari was not a factor. Funny enough, Buhari who was supposed to safeguard office until Idiagbon, his action man returns, left the power house for his village to celebrate sallah while the Minna born general (Babangida) stepped into office unresisted. No security breach is as grave as this. I have many other facts but I must stop here for now. However, I leave you with these: do not assualt your fellow citizen in the name of politics. Tackle issues, not personalities. Learn to appreciate incubent leaders, though they are not always perfect. Let's pray for God's intervention in the polity of this nation. One love.

  23. Liar, Buhari will nt clean Nigeria from corruption. THIS IS WHAT BUHARI WILL DO. HE WILL DESTROY THE DEMOCRATIC STRUCTURE THE WAY HE DID MANY YEARS AGO WENT HE TRAMPLED DOWN A DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED GOVERNMENT. Nigeria will weep under his administration and will praise GEJ latter. However it will be too late because democracy. Some might decide to use vote to vote him out you will be surprised your voting will not count. Lots of Journalist that write against him will be missing the next day. This will not happen immediately he enters. The first 2 years will look beautiful and calm. Some funny things will begin in the second 2 year. We will have something close to Sadam Hussien government in Iraq. To survive you must say Hail Buhari, Hail Buhari, Hail Buhari. I pity those that will not say this. It will look like democracy with the senate loosing power. I pity the senate because any one that opposes will die and its killer will never be found

    1. No I disagree with the writer because he was not born when Buhari ruled this nation as a dictator, our "young educate" GEJ did not do anything as a civilian president... as it is now; Buhari is the only strong ulternative lets give him a chance in democracy. #bringbackourgirls

  25. This cannot be true. It's your personal thought and imagination. What proof can you give about this. Maybe you are one of the corrupt individuals and now you are afraid. Don't worry. There may be a new law upon which new corrupt practices will be prosecuted. It all depends on the level of offence anyway. This should be a good idea if you like good things.
