Wike dares Amaechi - 'Jonathan’ll use Port Harcourt stadium for his rally whether you like it or not'

As the controversy surrounding the non-approval of the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium for President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign rages, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike, has vowed that the facility will be available for the President’s rally on January 28, 2015.

The state government had refused to approve the state PDP’s application to be allowed to use the stadium for the event, maintaining that the facility was still under construction.

But Wike, who spoke on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, during a meeting with the Goodluck to Goodluck Political Group, declared that contrary to claims by the State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, the PDP presidential campaign in Rivers would hold at the Amiesimaka Stadium.

The governorship candidate explained that the stadium belonged to the people of the state, insisting that the President would use it irrespective of Amaechi’s stance on the matter.

Wike argued that since the All Progressives Congress was able to hold its presidential rally in the stadium on January 6, 2015, it was logical that the PDP could use the same facility for its presidential rally.

Explaining that the PDP was committed to the peaceful use of the stadium, Wike added that the state PDP were meeting with relevant stakeholders to ensure that the right thing was done.

“The PDP presidential rally will hold at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium on Wednesday, January 28. The APC held their own presidential campaign rally on January 6, 2015 and an earlier rally on October 25, 2014 in the same stadium.

“Our presidential rally will hold at that stadium because it belongs to the people. We are working with all stakeholders to ensure that the right thing is done to move the nation forward. We are committed to the peaceful use of the stadium for our Presidential campaigns,” he said.

Wike, however, called on members of the Goodluck to Goodluck Political Group to continue with their massive mobilization for the re-election of President Jonathan.

Earlier, the Legal Adviser of the group told the PDP governorship candidate that his association was working for Jonathan’s emergence as President for a second term and Wike as the next governor of the state.

Wike had also inaugurated committees that would be responsible for the successful organisation of the PDP presidential rally in the state, even as he tasked the committees to work selflessly to set the tone for the re-election of the President.

However, the Rivers State PDP Chairman, Mr. Felix Obuah, who spoke on behalf of the committees, promised that members would deliver a memorable presidential rally in the state.

    1. I thought Wike and his master GEJ has continue to campaign that Ameachi didn't do anything for rivers state, why are they hustling to use the 21st century stadium built by him.
GEJ claimed that Akpabio has built a 3G stadium in akwa-ibom, and he should carry his campaign there and leave rivers people alone in peace, cause wike is known for thuggery.
Please wike don't cause trouble o! for only refusal not to use a stadium o.

  5. "NEVER OUTSHINE THE MASTER" The way some of you insult leaders is irritating. But wait, evil is evil. if a governor builds a stadium, is the money his own or state money? It means we don't see ourselves as owners of the same project. It's unfortunate that some have become online traitors just because of election. When will a developing country with this kind of mentality become developed? God is a righteous judge let's not forget.

  6. Goodluck is superior to Amaechi as long as any territory or facility situated anywhere within Nigeria or Africa is concern. He has no right to deny our president the use of the stadium or any other facility he might require in the state. Who is he?

  7. A governor is saying the President will not use Rivers state stadium and some people are in support of such shameful statement. Rebellion is like the sin of witchcraft. The stone you throw will bounce back. So don't condemn people because they might be innocent and better than you if you go close to them. Jonathan deserves complete respect aside political propaganda. God bless Nigeria.

  8. Why is there no tolerance in Nigerian politics? This is not encouraging at all.
I am an admirer and supporter of Gov. Amaechi for his good governance, courage and boldness. However, anybody has the right to the use of the stadium provided the request is made the right way and through the right channel. It is good to be fair to all and this draw more sympathy to you. Please, my Governor, let us do the right thing.

  9. I am sure Gov Amaechi did not build the stadium with his own money. He has benefited enough from that project right from design to completion stage putting Nigerian factor into consideration. Tell Amaechi to have respect for his maker and the mr. president.

  10. I don't want to believe this story because it sounds childish. There must be more to it than what was reported. The politicians has a way of doing things that an unsuspecting individual will empathize with them. I want to assume that the report is economical with facts. It is most unfortunate and unfair to just jump into conclusion and run comments without considering the logicality of the report. Be that as it may, our leaders must respect human right at all times.
