PICTURE OF THE DAY: Obasanjo bows to greet President Jonathan

The unpredictability of the former Nigerian leader, Olusegun Obasanjo was further showcased as he made a surprise appearance at the wedding of a niece of President Goodluck Jonathan, not only did he attend, he was also pictured surprisingly bowing as he greeted President Jonathan, as Mr president remained standing straight.

It can be recalled that Obasanjo recently  claimed that Jonathan’s government had wasted $45 billion foreign exchange reserve left by his administration. He said he bore no personal grudge against Jonathan and that he was only concerned with good governance.

And President Goodluck Jonathan had responded in like measure, with aides disputing Obasanjo’s figure and Jonathan describing some elder statesmen as ‘motor park touts’.

The marriage in Abuja today was between Inebharapu Paul, Jonathan’s niece and Simeon Onyemaechi. The wedding held at the Abuja National Christian Centre.

It was learnt that Obasanjo’s appearance caused quite a stir at the ceremony.

He arrived the venue in company of Dr. Andy Uba and some other aides before the commencement of the service.

His arrival attracted a loud ovation from those who were already seated, especially women.
He was ushered into the hall amidst standing ovation by his admirers and took his seat at the VIP section.

He was later joined at the section by the President of the Senate, David Mark and his wife.
About 20 minutes after, Jonathan entered the hall with his wife, Patience, and the bride.

The President and his wife took turn to exchange pleasantries with Obasanjo, Mark and other dignitaries before taking their seats.

Obasanjo’s introduction during the service also attracted a loud applause from the congregation.
In his vote of thanks at the service Jonathan specially recognised Obasanjo’s presence, saying, “Let me appreciate our father, President Olusegun Obasanjo, for being here with us. Thank you for coming.”

    2. Matosky, you are wrong again. Yoruba's are only diplomatic. Their diplomacy is what has brought them this far. The Yoruba man is always ready to negotiate with you rather than kill himself over some senseless arguement. He is also very smart, he will stoop to conquer.
Gej is just unwise, an old man bows to greet you, you stand upright to receive him in Africa that is wrong so so wrong

    3. There he goes again EL-KATOSKI. You have just revealed that you are an Igbo man. and as true to form the Igbos are still in kindergarten when it comes to politics. They are bereft of diplomacy and always make the wrong choice of letting their emotion get the better part of them instead of using their intelligence. how do you explain an Igbo nation proposal to adopt a single candidate for the Presidential Election there by putting all their eggs in one basket because of their hatred of the Hausa and Yorubas. Its like cutting off ones nose to spite ones head. While other tribes are almost evenly distributed in their support of the two major parties the Igbo chooses to allow emotion rule their thinking faculty believing that the coming election is another Biafran war that needed to be concluded.EL_Katoski.. 2. Anon 9:43, why will u label a tribe poverty stricken?its a pity no one knows ur tribe as its not stated here not even ur name but I can deduce why, I think a yoruba man is ur landlord and u are always unable to come up with ur rents and this hurts u so bad(I understand the pains). My advice work harder, stop been vengeful and control ur hate.

      Mark.

    3. Poverty stricken? You need to go check again Dude. Without oil the yorubas have made progress developed their land much more than you lots. Our diplomatic life style has allowed people from all over the country to come help us develop our part of the country even more. Learn from us dude; we stoop to conquer and we always do in the end.

  9. OBJ is an elder statesman, like him or hate him doesn't change the fact. I like what he did, Jonathan is still the president and number person in the country atleast for now, so, kudos to BABA for bows to Jona. But that doesn't translate to that Jona is BABA mate is the office that he did respected. GMB all the way!

  15. If I were President Jonathan, I should have bowed immediately for OBJ immediately. In African tradition, it is a taboo for a young person to receive a bow from an elderly person. GEJ missed it again, what a problem.

    ReplyDelete
  16. What is there in such bows? Or is a typical Yorubaman, there have respect for both the young, old, intelligent and stupid. Apart from that, his ulterior motives may not be what we have as our thoughts.

  25. Dear commentator, before tearing yourselves apart, please sit and ponder over this African adage: "Good morning is not a sign of friendship". On Baba's appearance at GEJ's niece's wedding.

    ReplyDelete
  26. OBJ after evil organisations endorsed Buhari, he has realized the truth and he has visited, bowed to GEJ. Which signifies GEJ as a victor.

    ReplyDelete
  27. GEJ is the winner any day criticize him or not, later you will find the truth and support him. Many who criticized him previously have come back to support him when they realized their mistakes. I believe many of you blabbing will eventually turn to support and praise him. Remember GEJ said that by the time he finishes his administration Nigerians will turn around and praise him as the best president after seeing the truth and his achievements, This is the signal.

    ReplyDelete
  28. OBJ was making a statement by attending that wedding and even bowing before GEJ: Despite his dissatisfaction with GEJ's performance as President, he (OBJ) has no personal issues with the President. That is maturity - separate the issue from the person. I wish our politicians would learn from this wise man! I can be your friend and not vote for you - if I don't think you are capable.
