Ghana, Algeria zoom into AFCON quarter-finals

The Black Stars of Ghana as well as the Desert Foxes of Algeria have secured quarter final tickets in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations having registered crucial wins over South Africa and Senegal respectively on Tuesday night.

Algeria beat Senegal 2-0 while Ghana came from a goal down to beat South Africa 2-1.
In the Algeria versus Senegal tie, the North Africans got off to a fast start and took the lead in the 11th minute after Riyad Mahrez put them ahead.
The second goal for Algeria came late when Nabil Bentaleb bulletted a long-range strike home with eight minutes left on the clock.
The victory over Senegal ensured that Algeria who are tipped as one of the favourite to win the 2015 AFCON finished with six points from three games.
The win for Ghana was more dramatic as they were initially a goal down before rallying in the last 20 minutes for the crucial win.
Mandla Masango scored arguably the goal of the tournament with a dipping volley from 25 yards to put South Africa in the lead after just 17 minutes of action.
However John Boye, after being introduced as a substitute in the first half put Ghana back on level in the 72nd minute when he turned into the net an initially scuffed effort by Andre Ayew.
Ayew put the icing on the cake for Ghana as he powered home a header in the 83rd to effectively seal Ghana’s place in the quarter finals.
