2015 ELECTIONS: Jehovah’s Witness Asks Members Not To Vote

As Nigerians prepare to elect new leaders that will run the affairs of the country in the next four years, members of Jehovah’s Witness have been banned from participating in the electoral process and by implication, they are forbidden from voting for any candidate or contesting in any election.

They claimed that participating in an election was satanic and contrary to God’s commandment.

Findings revealed that members of Jehovah’s Witness were warned not to obtain voter’s cards and that they should not vote during the elections.

The directive was not a mere order as any member found participating or voting during the elections will be excommunicated.

When our reporter spoke to some of the members who confirmed the directive, they claimed that the order was right because they are still waiting for the kingdom of God that is yet to be establshed on earth.

A minister in the congregation, James Uduok, explained that every member of Jehovah’s Witness knows that participating in election is satanic and contrary to the will of God.

Uduok said that the teaching of the Witness was strongly embedded in the Bible and all members must adhere strictly to the teaching or leave the congregation.

The members defended their decision not to vote or get involved in the electoral process by quoting Mathew 6: 9 and Mathew 4: 8.

Mathew 6: 9 says: “This is how you should pray: Our Father in heaven may your holy name be honoured. May your kingdom come.”

To members of Jehovah’s Witness, this scripture implies that the kingdom of God has not come and they are still waiting for it to come.

Also, Mathew 4: 8 is a scripture that dwells on how the devil took Jesus to a high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and promised to give them to Him if He bowed down and worshipped him. Members of Jehovah’s Witness claim that this world belongs to satan and insist that God’s kingdom has not yet come.

When our reporter sought the views of non members, especially pastors, their response was contrary to the teaching of the Witnesses.

Pastor Jude Chukwurah noted that their belief was strange because the same Bible mandated Christians to respect constituted authority.

“God recognises leadership and authority of leaders in the society,” he said.
Chukwurah said even in ages past, there was clamour for leaders as reported in the Bible and the people elected their leaders.

Another pastor, Michael James, said the Witnesses are misinterpreting the Bible and should be ignored.

He warned that their belief was not consistent with biblical teaching, adding that if such teaching is followed it could lead their members to imbibe false doctrine that could lead them to hell.

  1. "He warned that their belief was not consistent with biblical teaching, adding that if such teaching is followed it could lead their members to imbibe false doctrine that could lead them to hell."

Haha. That's funny. False, unbiblical doctrines such as the trinity and purgatory, perhaps? Bit of sarcasm there.

Anyhow, as a German, I love this pastors logic. Seriously! 70 years ago Jehovah's Witnesses went to Concentration Camps because of their strict, Christian neutrality. They are praised as heroes of passive resistance nowadays. According to this pastors logic ( Bible mandated Christians to respect constituted authority), Jehovah's Witnesses should have served in the Wehrmacht and SS under Hitler.

"We must obey God as ruler rather than men"- the bible couldn't be clearer that Christ's Kingdom is no part of this world and that first and foremost, Christians are loyal to God, then to governments. Psalm clearly tells us not to put our trust in nobles or mortal men.

I for my part am proud to not partake in this political system, there is no need to force me to be no part of it. The only person I trust to solve all the problems mankind has is Jesus Christ. Human rulerships have failed at every turn.

    4. My friend, jw's weren't attacked in the nazi germany principally because of their political neutrality, but thanks to a letter from rutherford to hitler himself saying that jehovahs witnesses were not against the nazi regime, but actually had the same goals, offering him his support. If you don't believe me please look it up... Jehovahs witnesses neutrality is, and always has been questionable. Please research the well known events related to JWs in malawi and at the same time the events in Mexico...
It is truly sad how little Jehovahs Witnesses know their own past...

They are mentally ill . What people in their right mind would ask Jehovah before they could save their child? Complete brain washed idiots ! In my opinion I think those fat women who knock on doors should ask Jehovahs for a gym membership !

    1. But Psalm 24:1 speaks about the Earth, not about political systems and rulerships?

Daniel 4:17 says that the most High choses rulers. As he chose Cyrus to conquer Babylon in the days of Daniel and free his people. As he frequently does when it is according to His will.

However, the bible needs to be taken in a holistic context. The bible always made a clear distinction between "His people" and "the nations". And Jesus preaching campaign was all about his Kingdom, which he made clear is no part of the world.

    6. The news is reporting untruth. Nobody was told not to obtain voters' card. It's your conscience that is involved hence, a personal choice. Human rule has cost humans grief and continuous grief, so why run around for it. Jesus came to earth to show that true Christians can never be a part of the worldly affairs that goes contrary to God's Heavenly Kingdom, hence our neutral stance. Pls, the worldly big wigs et al should leave us alone. We have wronged no one and have not coarsed anyone against their rights. Do your thing and we'll do ours. Thanks.

  3. Jehovahs witnesses or not ,any real christian knows that Jesus Christ is undoubtedly dChief Agent and Perfecter ofd Christian faith-Hebrews 12:2.So then is it for nothing that Jesus categorically stated that his followers are no part of d world just as He himself was no part of d world? -John 17:16.Again Why did he withdraw into d mountain all alone to escape being enthroned forcefully as king by d Jews-John 6:15? Why did he emphatically tell d Roman Governor : "My kingdom is no part of this world...my kingdom is not from this source-John18:36?Furthermore,why is it that friendship with the world is adjudged as "enmity with God?-James4:4. Is christian Neutrality in political affairs of dis world such a light matter that Jesus referred to Satan as being "the ruler of the world"?-John 14:30.And at 1John5:19:the Bible says:"the whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one. So,under whose control would you really be when you support one faction or the other among the various political contenders of d world as represented in your country? This is just food for thought for anyone claiming genuine christianity.Has nothing to do with some unfounded or mischeivous branding of Jehovahs Witnesses as banning or ord
ering their members not to vote or contest elections.

  7. I am a proud witness. What the reporter said may not be true. The reporter would have said what the witness minister said, in quote. Instead he embellished it. The law says it is our civic right to take part in the PVC. Its a valid I.D. The law does not say it is a must for all to vote. Many a people don't vote despite not being a witness. Getting your PVC is one thing, voting with it is another. What we believe respecting God's kingdom can be examined, objectively, and with the bible.

  9. Your findings are wrong because all members have their voters card. They are law abiding citizens but will never compromise. Jehovah'a Witnesses will not vote because only God's Kingdom under Christ's rule is the panacea for man's problems. While they advocate God's Kingdom and remain neutral when it comes to political issues, they adhere strictly to the laws of the land only, I mean, only I'd it does not contradict bible principles.

  10. Then what of going to school, since schooling is PART of the world system? Why wil they not just be like Boko haram and also call the eeducation ssystem satanic.?

I think the world system (a principle of the world system) s what the BIBLE speaks about answer we must learn to distinguish that from the principles Christ wants us to adopt as we are living in this world.

We are in the world and not of the world.

We are sent into the world but not of the world.

And we are commanded to do all our best to live at peace with all men.

We should be careful enough not to let people misunderstand us.

If we really want to separate from everything in the world, then it will mean that we should go back to the bush and Stop living among human beings.

Let us not be like boko haram claiming western education is a sin but they are using the same education to train and carry out their campaign.

Jehovah witness call government system a sin, but they establish companies, work and earn salary under the same govern. They attend school s under the same system. Etc.

    Who is really confused here?

    1. You speak as though, someone who is uneducated. You yourself said it:"We are in the world, but not part of it." A lot of comments has been made here, and only rationally-thinking discerning individuals can glean the truth from the falsehood. Go through Bible accounts of Jesus existence on earth, and I dare you to show me even a fragment of any portion where Jesus was in support of any political system. He always stood against it, cos he knows that no human can successfully rule man in its entirety. As the comments above alludes to, we are law-abiding citizens. Jesus says to give Caesars thing to Caesar, and Gods thing to God. We pay our taxes, we would have a voters card cos it's a law that has been placed by the government, but WOULD NOT VOTE with it; we adhere to the nation's laws and policies, but only if they do not compromise Bible teachings. Jesus had made it clear that his kingdom is no part if this world, and we are christians - Christ's followers. If you vote for any human with hopes of him bringing relief of any sort to the country or to the world, then it would be sheer stupidness to say and believe in the lord's prayer:"Your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven."

  11. I'm sorry but JW are clueless people. While we wait on the Kingdom of God to be established on earth, what happens to the governance? You say the earth is Satan's so you are not concerned about who rules it. Yet, you live in the "ways of the world" - you go to educational institutions (even striving to go to the best ones), you go to work in secular places to earn money; money the "root of all evil". Until you can totally shun these things, especially working in secular sectors, your point about not voting is void.

    1. Sir, Jesus came to earth not as an illiterate but a literate. He came as a hardworking man because he had a job. He respected constituted authorities, hence his admonition to give to Caesar what's meant for him and God's things to Him. But he stood against the worldly political affairs and that infuriated his so-called brothers and handed him over to die painfully. Education, making a honest living is a different ball game in killing, lying, stealing for supposed leadership. Pls let us be. Do yours and we'll do ours. We've never been blacklisted as troubleshooters but peace lovers. Leave us alone. Thanks.

  14. I have read through all comments here. Obviously, JW have a high sense of respect and regards for others wherever they live. Its sp unfortunate that media propaganda using this forum has chosen to present its biaise against some of the most peaceful, loving and tolerant people not only in Nigeria but in the world. Jehovah's Witnesses are well enlightened and obeys Ceasars law much more thn many self acclaimed christians in Nigeria today. Religious hypocrisy is rooted much more in christian-doom than in any other religion practised in Nigeria. Now to the fact, no where has JW ever asked their members not to participate in elections. Rather they are reminded of the need to remain neutral as concerns the political affairs of any nations (reason they were persecuted by Nazi and many nations who wanted to recuit members for military service during WW1 & 2. And till date, no JW is a member of the armed forces., Think a few joins the regular police force and traffic wardens, prisons wardens- non arms carrying roles. ...The writer should be objective and truthful. More than half of eligible JW members surprising have their TVC and PVCs. Many stays within my locality. So please, stop this falsehood and redirect readers attention to upbuilding and not divisive articles.

  15. Apostates are at it again. Agents of Satan would not rest until they tear God's people apart. Jehovah God would soon take decisive action because they fail to know that it is the most high God, Jehovah that they malign with their falsehoods. Jehovah's Witnesses are peace loving and law abiding people. They work hard to make an honest living. They contribute immensely to the society and nation at large through their free bible educational work and respect the lives and opinions of others. They have voters cards as the law demands but have chosen not to vote or be voted for. I believe others should respect their opinion and position on politics and the electoral system.
