Schalke assistant coach struck by missile thrown from the stands



Schalke assistant coach Sven Hubscher was struck by a missile thrown from the crowd during Saturday’s Bundesliga clash with Koln at the Veltins-Arena.



The incident occurred in stoppage time at the end of the home side’s 2-1 defeat, with Roberto Di Matteo’s No.2 left bloodied and requiring stitches after being hit in the head by an unidentified object.

Schalke sporting director Horst Heldt confirmed after the game in Gelsenkirchen that the club had launched an enquiry into the attack and are intent on finding the person responsible.

“We hope that we can identify the perpetrator,” he told reporters. “This is unacceptable.”

Leroy Sane had dragged Schalke back into the game five minutes before the incident but the home side were unable for avoid a defeat that leaves them sixth in the Bundesliga standings.
