I get contradictory advice on national issues - Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday said for every issue he had to take a decision on, multiple suggestions that were most times contradictory, were made available to him.

He said it was therefore important for Nigerians to continue to pray to God to give him wisdom to take the right decisions that would not bring suffering to the people.

Jonathan spoke at the 2014 Christmas Carol organised by the Aso Villa Chapel at the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

While saying that nobody placed oneself in a position of authority without the consent of God, he expressed the belief that God, who chose him, would see him through.

The President said, “We pray that God should give those of us who are in charge the grace to do things with the fear of God. If we begin to do what is right in our own little way, this nation will survive.

“God knows why we are here. Nobody will place himself in any position without God. So God that gives all of us the opportunity will see us through.

“For me your servant today, I will continue to request for your prayers that God should give me the wisdom to do what is right in His sight.

“Because it is quite challenging for a leader. For every subject that you want to take a decision, you will have multiple suggestions, some contradictory, some to the left, some to the right, some to the centre. But you must take a decision.

“It is only God that can guide you to take the rightful decision that will not bring suffering to your people.

“We will try our best and we will continue to do our best. We promise that any opportunity given to us, we will use it to serve mankind.”

  1. That is what happens when you choose corrupt imcompetent people around you. Are we supposed to feel sorry for you? Resign if you are not up to the task. After how many years in office what a pathetic excuse to give the poor masses who are victims of your visionless leadership. The choice of Buhari is even worse. We are truly in a mess here

  5. For a Country president to be speaking like this it means there is gross incompetent leadership issue here and the country shall continues to sink, sufering, lacking all amenities and to crown it all high level of cooruption. Now that GEJ understand his problem that he is not aleader becuase leaders are born he is advised to resign or complete this tenure till May 2015 and move to his village Otuocha i Bayesa state. God Almighty that installed him there has left him long ago, we have seen the hand writing on the wall or ready to face the consiquence.

  9. Unreasonable excuse! Mr. President if your advisers advised you to jump into fire, will you jump into it? Are you so blank that you have no residual knowledge? Are you installed as a rubber stamp president? No wonder that OBJ said that we have five president in Nigeria and GEJ is the least powerful of them. Thank you for this sincere confirmation. Please, pack your load and vacate the Aso Rock! We are tired of your cluelessness.

  10. You just exposed your greatest weakness and cluelessness. One of the greatest skill of a leader is the ability to sift out the grains of truth and facts from plethora of chaf coming as advice. If you can't handle that you have reason to be on that sit.

  12. God expect people to act decisively in making decisions. A weakling cannot please God in not making the important decision to liberate the people.

Mr President has allowed his administration to be overrun by corrupt elements. It is right to seek good counsel and the President is not compelled to accept a particular counsel. Mr President has all the resources needed to investigate and corroborate any given advice or counsel.

The situation with the Nigerian Army operations in the North East of Nigeria is a clear example of maladministration and corrupt practices among military leadership. The President as Commander-in-Chief has a responsibility to protect the citizens of Nigeria and manage the affairs of the military and operations. Court Martial of soldiers is not the first line of action in the ongoing situation in the North East.

The President must ensure that there are no "ghost" soldiers enlisted on military payroll. Soldiers in active duty lack resources for the job causing their life to be at risk. The President must use the wisdom God has given him instead of relying on only the advice of others.

However, if Mr President cannot put an end to the Boko Haram situation in the North East, there is no need to continue in leadership or seek to be elected again. In many advanced countries, if leaders become ineffective in their job, they resign to allow someone else to takeover.

Mr President, there is no need to allow the country to run on AutoPilot. Nigerians need a strong and decisive leadership. There is war in Nigeria and nobody is safe. Nigeria need a leader who is not a weakling. Mr President, if you cannot resolve the horror situation in the country, please do the honorable thing and resign to allow someone else.

  13. I keep saying it that you don't have charisma!!!
But thank God you're realizing that you dont have what it takes to lead and those advicing you are not doing better. I must tell you, your wife is your problem, she is the most reason why you failed Nigerians and you will never do better. Even after your advisers gives you advice, (good one) you wife will still advice you contrary. Your wife still has the final say, that's why you are failing Nigerians, that's why you're confused and clueless. Not your advisers because your advisers still dance to your wife tones, everybody is pleasing your wife to keep their job, including you. INSIDER.
