Governor Amosun blasts Gbenga Daniel - ‘You are a confused person.’

Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun has faulted a statement credited to his predecessor, Gbenga Daniel that within three years his administration borrowed N200bn.

He described the allegation as one from a ‘confused person.’

Amosun who was fielding questions from journalists on Friday at the inauguration of the Orange Valley Estate, Abeokuta, said his predecessor was overwhelmed by his achievement and thus confused.

Daniel had on Tuesday during the reunification rally held at the Peoples Democratic Party secretariat, Abeokuta, berated the state government for having borrowed N200bn in three yeas, despite millions of dollars left behind in the state account.

However, Amosun explained that no state could borrow up to N200bn from banks except through bond.

He said, “The highest any bank can lend out is N25bn at a time.

“And the highest my administration is owing any bank is N11bn. We only use two banks.”

Amosun noted that the opposition parties in the state have continued to criticise his policies only to be overwhelmed at the achievements thereafter.

He said, “I am happy the federal ministry of finance is talking now, and they know there is no state unless you take a bond.

“The maximum you can take is probably N50bn and that will not even happen because banks will not give you that really.”

He said his detractors had earlier accused him of demolishing houses without constructing any road, but “now that they can see the roads, they are now trying to shift the emphasis that it is just roads. They have seen the schools coming up, they are confused, housing projects are also coming up.”

Inaugurating the Orange Valley Estate, Amosun said the estate comprised 130 units of semi-detached 4-bedroom duplex constructed by Ogun State Property and Investment Corporation, and delivered within nine months.

He said government was determined to provide houses for many people who work in the state but reside in Lagos State because they couldn’t find suitable structures in the state.
