Chibok girls 200th day in captivity: Make rescue of Chibok girls top priority, Ezekwesili pleads

The rescue of the 219 girls abducted from Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State by insurgents of the Islamist Boko Haram group must take priority over every other activity, Bringbackourgirls campaigner, Mrs. Oby Ezekwesili has said.

Speaking ahead of the 200th day today, of the abduction of the school girls, Mrs. Ezekwesili expressed sorrow over the continued abduction of the girls who she said, should not be allowed to abide a day longer in the captivity of the insurgents.

She rebuffed a direct response to the spate of political activities connected to the forthcoming elections saying tersely that every other thing was insignificant to the efforts to liberate the girls.

“As far as we are concerned, we are not looking at any other thing, we are just interested in the Federal Government living up to its responsibility, the need to rescue the Chibok girls,” Mrs. Ezekwesili a former minister of education and vice-president in World Bank said.
“Every other thing pales into insignificance to the lives of 219 citizens of Nigeria who should not be in the enemy’s den for 200 days now,” she reiterated.

276 girls of the Government Secondary School, Chibok were abducted by the insurgents on the night of April 14, 2014 in an operation that initially raised doubts among some sections of the government and the polity. 57 of the girls reportedly escaped from the captivity of the insurgents the abduction has drawn worldwide condemnation from all sections of the world.

Efforts by the government to rescue the girls have so far been unsuccessful despite the alleged deployment of international assistance from some western nations.

The Nigerian Chief of Defence Staff, AVM Alex Badeh had on October 17, 2014 announced a ceasefire with the insurgents in a move that was believed to be a step towards the release of the school girls, but the ceasefire has so far failed to lead to a truce with continued reports of attacks by the Boko Haram insurgents.

  1. @Anonymous 8:04 AM, people like you will never see things the way they are. I wonder what you will tell your children tomorrow. Why has your very innocent President Jonathan failed to arrest these men you mentioned if they are culpable. He knew how to use the police illegally to shoot teargas into Rivers State government house, to withdraw security from the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and to stop opposition leaders and governors from using public facilities. So tell me the reason why he can't arrest your suspected terrorists if truly they are culpable. Or is he no longer the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria? You people should shun sentiments and be real for once. If your daughter, or your sister or your relative is among those girls in captivity for 200 days now, I'm sure that no one would have reminded you that the primary responsibility of government is security of life and properties and that that responsibility rests on the shoulder of the president i.e. President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. So do not expect Mrs Oby Ezekwesili to be like you because she is a mother and one with conscience. She is protesting because she is patriotic. God will help this country and deliver her from all her enemies. May God bless Nigeria.

    1. My Candid advice to you is to keep praying for GEJ to return back come 2015 bcos with the way your Northern Brodas are going about this power, there won't be the name Nigeria if GEJ didn't come back bcos you can't tell me you are born to rule and others are born to be ruled with their own resources......You and i knows it is not gonna happen.....I have foreseen the problem more worst than Boko haram if the Northerners succeeded in pushing GEJ out of Aso Rock.........The Northerners have ruled this country for almost 40 yrs and have nothing to account for....This country,China and India were amongst the three countries that were tipped by the westerners to go far in development after colonization.....Just look out China and India and look out Nigeria......The reason is just bcos the Northerners have been ruling this country with their Myopic reasoning.....Nothing to offer for the country they have ruled for over 40 yrs now........The Corruption everybody is shouting about in this Administration didn't start today.....This corruption have been there since the days of Northerners in govt......GEJ came to rebuild this Nation but was promised that his govt will be made Ungovernable and they kept to their promised just bcos they felt the leadership of this country belongs to them alone......Don't you think GEJ would have done better if not the Unleashing of Boko haram to distablize and distract him according their promised of making his govt ungovernable ? So you think when a Northern takes the power, the environment will be conducive for him to govern ? You better reason very well bcos Nig is heading towards succession if GEJ didn't come back.
