Oritsejafor shouldn’t blame me for his jet scandal –El-Rufai

Former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir el’Rufai, has accused the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, of resorting to abuse after his futile efforts to shake off his connection to the aircraft used for smuggling $9.3m cash from Nigeria to South Africa.

The CAN in a statement on Tuesday admitted that the aircraft was owned by Eagle Air Company in which Oritsejafor had interest, but added that the story of the arrest of the aircraft in South Africa was sponsored by the All Progressives Congress and some members of the party including el-Rufai.

The South African police are said to be investigating two Nigerians and an Israeli citizen who tried to bring the money (about N1.5bn) in cash into the country illegally as part of an arms deal.

In his response to CAN on Wednesday, the former minister in a statement by his media aide, Muyiwa Adekeye, said Oritsejafor should be more reflective about the incident rather than resorting to abuse.

He said, “When light unexpectedly shines on murkiness, those exposed by the stinging rays often berate the light rather than regret the muck.

“That is the plight of Ayo Oritsejafor whose private jet was identified as the vessel impounded by the South African authorities for ferrying $9.3m cash into their country.

“A statement from Eagle Air admitted Oritsejafor’s interests in the aircraft, but said it leased the plane to Green Coast which in turn acknowledged hiring the plane out for the trip to South Africa.

“Unable to shake off his connection to the plane, Oritsejafor has resorted to abuse and vilification. Were he more reflective, he would be pondering how, of all the private jets available in Nigeria, it was his that came to be involved in a covert arms purchase scandal.

“Would he have managed any objectivity if the plane involved happened to belong to a prominent person of another faith or political persuasion?”

  1. Infact, I don't know what CAN is still doing by leaving Oritsejafor as their president. This CAN president is now a politician. Is there no other private jet in the country than his own? Did Bishop Oyedepo not having a private jet ? If it is another faith (religion), they will say they want to use it 4 BH.

  2. El Rufai is a BH Sponsor and shamed politician who thinks he can gain relevance by attacking Christians. We all know how he demolished people's houses and seized plots in Abuja only to turn round and allocate them to his family members and cronies - when he was a minister.

  3. It's only a matter of time before anyone who is wheeling and dealing in the name of the Lord will be exposed. How a pastor would get so partisan as Oritsejafor beats my Christian imagination. He even owns a private jet! The only earthly belongings Jesus had were the robe he wor, his blanket and the sandals on his feet. Yet, he founded the Church upon whose foundation the Oritsejafors of this world are building worldly mansions and maintaining fleets of automobiles and aircraft. What a shame!

  4. Ayo Oritsejafor has been serving as CAN President since OBJ tenure ( over 10 yrs.) As a result of his re-election and attitude, the Catholic Church distant themself away from the activities of CAN. The action of Christains in Nigeria toward money is something to be worried about. Let us take christainity as the Bible spell it out to preach God Almighty Gospel.

  5. This is really a pitiful for Nigeria as a Nation.

Now the Cat is let out of the bag!!!!!

CAN with Oritsejafor as their president (including Pastor EA Adeboye et al) according to the tenets of the Bible are suppose to be the conscience of the masses, the people, and indeed the society at large.

How can those who should be the conscience of the society now be the ones owning (or being part owners) of exclusive business ventures that only the likes of the Government can patronize.

Imagine someone whose Church policy is absolute abstinence from either attending, participating or even officiating in a wedding involving couples that have not only been involved in premarital sex but also having pregnancy before wedding. This same person now makes exceptions for "Ogas at the Top". When confronted with the fact, he claims being deceived into participating whereas he always claims he is always in tune with the same Holy Spirit. Is this not a big irony....

It is obvious to those sensitive to the Holy Spirit, that majority of these men of God have already failed the second temptation of Jesus Christ whom they claim to be their Master.

They are being rewarded by the devil as he promised same Jesus Christ in the second temptation and ironically they are claiming and giving testimonies that "It's The Lord's Doing and It's Marvelous in their pitiful eyes".

CAN and the Majority of the Pentecostal Churches have failed Nigeria as a Country.

CAN and the Majority of the Pentecostal Churches are indeed very very sick and that is why the sickness of this beloved Nation is worsening day by day.

This is now the Hour of the Elijahs for our dear Nation Nigeria. Alas o Lord, you maker of Heaven and Earth and everyone inhabiting it, majority of your priests have failed the people of this your beloved Nation Nigeria, help us now to raise the Prophets that are required for this our hour of need. IJN. Amen.

  7. Oritsejafor has only succeeded in politicising the office of president of CAN in somewhat unprecedented manner. Even before now he had shown complete digression from the divinity of his exalted office as number one christian cleric in Nigeria to the indignity of filthy game of politics in Nigeria. I think he has to change his style.
