I’ll battle Jonathan for PDP ticket - Tafawa Balewa’s son

The son of Nigeria’s first Republic Prime Minister, Dr. Abdul-Jhalil Tafawa-Balewa, has said he will contest the 2015 presidential election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Tafawa-Balewa condemned plot by the national leadership of the party to demoralize other presidential aspirants by adopting President Goodluck Jonathan as the sole presidential candidate of the party.

He was responding to the adoption of Jonathan by the party’s National Executive Committee at its meeting in Abuja on Thursday.

With the adoption, the party said it expected all members of the party including those nursing presidential ambition to drop it and queue behind the President.

But Tafawa-Balewa said he would not be intimidated with such decision.

He said in a statement on Sunday that such endorsement was undemocratic.

He said, “I’m not intimidated by the decision of the PDP governors and the party to support the second term aspiration of President Goodluck Jonathan.

“What type of democracy do we have? Is the PDP a communist party? Where is the place of internal democracy?”

He said the greater majority of Nigerians had been yearning for a leadership capable of fulfilling their high expectations and aspirations.

He asked Nigerians to listen to facts and that they should not be carried away with the party’s decision.

“What Nigerians need and where they want the country to be in future are paramount issues. We need to put our ideas before the people and allow them to decide,” he added.

Promising to make Nigeria an industrialized country, Tafawa-Balewa said his administration would ensure zero unemployment, better education, maximum security and increased power supply.

“Nigeria needs to move from Third World to First world” he said.

On financial muscle to withstand the pressure of a presidential contest, he insisted that good Nigerians would support him fully.

  6. Adoption of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan as the sole Presidential Candidate under the platform of PDP is a confirmation that no political party in this country practise full internal democracy. Then why do we always blame Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his cronies for hand picking who runs for which post? I perceived a situation of "birds of the same feather flocking together". Unless we are deceiving ourselves, Aso Rock Villa will witness interesting events come 2015. Folks, let's keep watching as events unfold.

  8. Most Nigerian politicians are political prostitutes. They accepts who ever has the power and the money for there selfish interest at the expense of the Nigerians. Refer back to general Abacha's era where they claimed he was the only prophet that will take them to the promise land. some seconds after his death was announced they were the first to crucify him calling all names [dictator, corrupt, murderer etc]. If good luck and his pdp kangaroos don't have a skeleton in there cupboard then let them allow every pdp interested candidate to contest freely and let Nigerians elect who they want by themselves. Remember God dey. nomatter how long it takes, they will surely leave the Aso rock one day just like OBJ and IBB.

  9. In as much as I am not a politician,I still know there was a consensus opinion to have only one candidate, a breach of Democratic process has not occurred except where there's proof of manipulation. If simply means that a majority of the stakeholders have agreed to make it so. The possibilities of him paying his way through may not be ruled out but then, these are well matured individuals who we expect know better than selling their birthright for a bowl of porridge. If you happen to be in minority as regards your intention to contest under PDP,then it maybe you who is violating the political process.

  10. Who are the well mature individuals in PDP. Please go and sell that to fools. PDP is a kangaroo party with no respect for democracy. All those in that party are thieves and rogues. They are not better than their brothers in APC. Many supporter of these parties will cry in 2015 because it is their heads they will use to break the coconuts.
