SUICIDE ATTACK: 10-year-old, 2 teenagers arrested with explosives in Kano

Coordinator of National Information Centre, Mr Mike says security forces stopped a car in Kano’s neighbouring state of Katsina today and arrested three suspected Boko Haram members.

The group included one male and two girls, aged 18 and 10.

The older two tried to flee, according to Omeri’s statement.

The “10-year-old … was discovered to have been strapped with an explosive belt,” he said.

The chilling trend of deploying young women and girls as bombers comes three-and-half months after Boko Haram kidnapped more than 200 schoolgirls from the remote town of Chibok in the northeast.

Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau boasted about the mass abductions in a video during which he threatened to sell the girls as slaves.

The Chibok abductions prompted a social media campaign that went viral and drew unprecedented global attention to Boko Haram’s extremist uprising, which the group says is aimed at creating a strict Islamic state in the mainly Muslim north.

In the weeks following the kidnappings, some prominent jihadi websites had posts condemning the Nigerian group’s extreme tactics.

Nigeria has repeatedly insisted that it knows where the girls are, while President Goodluck Jonathan and top military officials have suggested they will be brought home safely soon.

But little progress has been made in securing their release while the violence appears to be escalating across the north and centre of the country.

More than 2,000 civilians have been killed this year, making the first half of 2014 one of the deadliest stretches of the insurgency.

Attacks had been concentrated in the remote northeast, Boko Haram’s stronghold, but waves of strikes since April in major cities including the capital Abuja have underscored the grave threat the Islamists pose to Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country and top oil producer.

  2. It is a pity some useless elements claiming to be more Muslims than others are giving enemies of Islam chances to talk rubbish.

It is a pity the Northerners that are claiming to be more Muslims that others are fighting to collect bribes to impeach some their governors instead of standing up to the threat of ignorant ones among them.

In those days, these animals used to kill Southerners calling them Idol-worshipers. Today, untrained children of yesteryear are now causing trouble in the North. Shame on you for sitting down idle instead of having sleepless nights till the situations are brought under control.

My strong advice to those blaming Islam for barbaric actions of those who are ignorant of the true Islam must do themselves a great favor by reading more on Islam before they bring the wrath of Allah onto themselves.

  3. Praise Almighty Allah, some of them are in the net. I pray Allah guides our leaders rightly to do things as expected. In a situation like this, these arrested bombers should be interrogated life to enable Nigerians and the whole world know who are behind the predicament we are in today.

FG must be straightforward in this case to prove it has no hands in Boko Haram issue. It was difficult to get these poor and lost children before they damages were done. Unless the FG still want to prolong the matter, this is right time to show faces of these bombers and ear them telling the whole world who are behind them

    1. unfortunately the bombers most times does not know who the "big boss" is, all they know is that they are instructed to carry out orders and that is it.

  4. i think there is a fundamental issue here, if what the BOKO HARAM is using to convince and manipulating its people to suicide bombing is in the Quran, then we may not find a permanent solution to this major issue. since they prove their point from the Quran then what are we talking about here?
