Ohanaeze youths demand protection of Igbos in North

The Ohanaeze Youth Wing has asked the Northern Governors Forum to reassure Igbos living in the North of their safety within 21 days.

The Ohanaeze Youth Wing, which issued the ultimatum in a statement by its President, Chief Okechukwu Isiguzoro, which was made available to our correspondent on Wednesday, warned that it would take “necessary action” if the northern governors failed to give the required assurance.

Isiguzoro explained that the ultimatum was in response to a statement attributed to the Arewa Consultative Forum, in which Igbo investments in the North were listed as targets of retaliatory attacks following alleged victimisation of Northern Muslims in Imo State.

Denying the alleged victimisation of Northern Muslims in the South East, Ohanaeze Youth Wing said Igbos in the North were worried over the statement made by the ACF.

The group said, “We ask the Northern Governors Forum, under the leadership of Dr. Babangida Aliyu of Niger State, to reassure Ndi-Igbo domiciled in the North of their safety and their continued preparedness to ensure the safety of lives and property of all Nigerians in their respective states.
“This has become necessary owing to recent statements emanating from the Arewa Consultative Forum listing Igbo investments in the North as targets of possible attacks based on unfounded claims of victimisation of Hausa/Fulani Muslims in Imo State.

“We challenge such Hausa/Fulani Muslims, who were allegedly victimised by Governor Rochas Okorocha’s government, to make their identities known.
“In the spirit of oneness, the Ohanaeze Youth Wing shall use all legal means to champion their cause.

“From our intelligence reports, Ndi-Igbo in the North are apprehensive since no Northern leader, especially the governors, has come out to condemn the anti-Igbo statement by the ACF.”

Ohanaeze Youth Wing linked the threat of retaliatory attacks on Igbos in the North to what it described as Ndigbo’s support for President Goodluck Jonathan’s presidential ambition in 2015, warning that it would take necessary action if the Northern Governors Forum did not reassure Igbos in the North of their security within 21 days.

  1. What is the essence of making a threat which can not be backed by action. What if the ultimatum is not complied with? How will you redeem your face as a toothless bull dog?

  2. Is it compulsory they must stay in the North? Northerners can not even protect themselves . Keep away from Boko Haram as far as you can.

  3. South is okay and more secure, better economically. I don't know why some people who value earthly thing than their life are still in North, That thing you started in North, you can indirectly transfer all of them back to South. Sell those houses you built there, come back with the money and start business in any state in the south east, we are doing well here. Let us come back and develop our place the way we developed there, I trust Igbo people because of our industriousness, you will rise up again when you come back, after all our fathers started with only 6 pounds each after the civil war but they triumphed at last. Don't remain in North until 2015 election....the life of one igbo is worth more than 10 Hausas

  4. We need good Igbo politicians who can make our place attract our brothers and sisters back from North. We have oil wells in Imo state, Abia state and Anambra state, there coal in Enugu, Agriculture in Abakiliki and in Akaeze both in Ebonyi states. we have big markets in Aba and in Onitcha, even automobile manufacturing in Nnewi, we have many universities, our international airport is operating now and there will be mini seaport in Onitcha, we have good hotels and relaxing places in Owerri and in Enugu. We don't bomb ourselves or fight ourselves, we do not have sharia laws, you can watch your foot ball and enjoy it without being bombed. You can get cheap rents here or even buy land or property outright at a low price, we still have many lands we have to develop and attract tourists and investors, we have massive workforce because we are educated. What is still keeping you in North as if they are better than us?

  5. You OHANEZE Youths should spend more time making efforts to make our brothers who have foolishly forgotten their past & what they and their fathers suffered in the hands of the north just few years back, come back to their senses, you're here telling Aboki to give you life and property insurance. I will never be sorry for any Ibo man that looses his life or property in the north. Have they ever counted you people as part of Nigeria, why haven't they allowed an Ibo man become president? Jonathan's tenure is giving them running stomach just because he's a Southerner. If the wealth sustaining Nigeria is in the north, they would have seceded long ago.
