VIDEO: First Lady weeps over kidnapped Chibok school girls

First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan was all tears yesterday at a meeting she convened in Abuja over the abduction of school girls in Chibok, Borno State.

Her first meeting on Friday set up a committee headed by the Borno State governor’s wife to ensure attendance at yesterday’s meeting. But the governor’s wife did not attend.

Mrs Jonathan wept when she learnt that the school had no stand-by power generator.

Besides, no extra security was provided at the school, she was told.

She was devastated that the governor’s wife did not show up for the meeting on Friday and yesterday .

The First Lady insisted that the state government and the Commissioner for Education should be blamed for the abduction of the girls as they allegedly failed to act on the letter from the Minister of Education for relocation of West African School Certificate Examination (WASCE) candidates to Maiduguri or safer places.

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) and the school’s principal disagreed at the meeting over the number of candidates for English and Maths in the school.

Among those that did not show up for the meeting were parents of the girls who escaped from the insurgents and teachers from the school.

Also, no student who escaped from the terrorists came for the meeting.

The vigilante group, wife of the Chibok village head, the gateman of the school, chairman and secretary of the Parent Teachers Association and the school matron were also absent.

Mrs Jonathan said: “I told the governor’s wife to call the parents of the abducted children; she did not honour it till today. The next thing I saw was women demonstrating on the streets. Now again, before Friday, my protocol (officer) called her and she gave 100 per cent assurance that she will be here on Friday. But she did not.”

“Now again, she is not here. Because she is the mother of Borno, she is the mother of those children and I am the grandmother. She should feel more concerned. But she is not. I and the Nigerian women are calling her, but she is not here.

“It is left for you. If you tell me you are not pained, why should I cry more than the bereaved? If I do so, the world will ask me questions.

“You people are playing games. This thing will not help us. After today, if these Borno people say we should not help them, you Nigerian women should not go out to demonstrate because they are playing games. You can keep it in Borno and let it end there.

“The Police came with their own; the Army came with all their own, WAEC came with all their own, but the Borno government came with a few. No parent is here to tell us that a child is missing. They cannot produce a parent whose child is missing.”

The First Lady wondered why some people were dying and others playing politics.

She noted that the next kidnap victim could be anybody, including her.

The First Lady added: “As a person, I really want these killings to stop. We may be the next people to be kidnapped if we let things pass by like this. We should not fold our hands and let things happen like this.

“Our sisters in the North, we are one country and we are sisters. We are not accusing you; we do not mean any harm and we are not quarrelling with anybody; we just want to stop all these killings.”

“We don’t wear bullet proof, we don’t know who they have already targeted. I’m not exempting myself or my husband. If I’m found guilty, let me go. Whoever is behind this, let us go politely to him and ask him to let all these stop.

“If it is the Constitution that is causing this, let us go to the National Assembly and beg them to amend whatever it is.”

“When something happened, let us all find solution. Look at the way the matter was brought up. The country would have gone on fire. You are making it look as if the President abducted the children,” she said.

During the responses from the school principal, Asabe Kwaburah, the Commissioner for Education, Musa Kubo and the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Chibok and some army officers at the meeting, the First Lady said the Police and Army cannot be blamed as they were not informed that the students sitting for the exams sleep in the school.

“The lapses here are on you the Commissioner of Education and the state government.”

While the school principal, who claimed that her grand-daughter is among the missing girls, said 395 students sat for English subject, the WAEC official, Charles Eguridu told the meeting that 387 girls sat for English subject before the abduction and 80 girls sat for Maths after the attack.

The principal said she was not around during the abduction as she was in Maiduguri for diabetic treatment. Acoording to her, she goes to Maiduguri every two weeks for the treatment.

The Commissioner for Health told the gathering that she had not seen any of the abducted girls that escaped from the terrorists.

The First Lady broke down and wept the second time towards the end of the meeting saying: “You want to kill my husband; you want to make me a widow before you go and rest. My God will never make me a widow. There is God o”

FG should take serious action against d state govt. after rescuing the innocent girls. the problem is not FG but the people of the affected state, the gov of d state and the traditional rulers. Y r they or their relatives not victim? and yet they r claiming of being innocent of the menance.

  2. You are very stupid for making that coment, can't you read the way things are going... Borno state government is playing politics with the whole saga. Rubish!!! Let this whole madness stop. Let borno state government take full responsibility of their plight... No matter what northerners, APC or even anybody do, GEJ must contest 2015. I don't have any single pity for these alleged and politically masterminded saga...

  3. At least she has decided to do something about it. It is however surprising that those particularly affected are not present to cry their cry. If the parents of the missing girls can't appear to make their voices heard, there is something wrong. It can be anybody next. If we do not stop this act in time, tomorrow maybe too late.

  6. This is interesting. So, Borno State first lady refund to attend the meetings? Could the whole thing be a false claim? This is what the absenteeism of all the major stakeholders especially representatives of the parents of the abducted girls portray. I think their presence at subsequent meeting s should be a condition for holding the meetings. Why are they refusing to attend the meetings? It will be pointless for others to leave their families, jobs and bases for a meeting when those directly affected with the issue evade meetings aimed at tackling the issue. Governor Shettima, tell the world the truth about this matter!

    2. It's obvious you guys are clueless! Is it someone who's bereaved that goes visiting or one who's not? If the President's wife is sincere, let her visit Chibok and condole with them. If she's there and the Governor's wife refuse to show, then we'll know something is fishy. But for now, Patience should stop sitting in Asorock and summoning people who deserved to be consoled to show up for a senseless meeting! If I were in there shoes, I won't honour the First lady's invitation.

  8. Its obvious you all are from niger delta. Can't we be objective? Is a commissioner of education responsible for security? Patience just made a big fool of herself. Who is she deceiving? She is crying now after all these girls have already been traumatized phsycologically. What authority under the constitution gives her the power to set up committees? Does she have a specific role outlined in the constitution? No! She should keep her mouth shut and stop spewing trash. How dare she make a joke out of the plight of the chibok girls by shedding crocodile tears, how dare she call God when this charade is merely political, just to canvass sympathy for her husband's election in 2015? God's judgment will fall heavily upon her and her household for this mockery. My chibok parents, please let's have faith and continue to pray, the Lord will answer, He is the only one we can turn to for help and deliverance, since our corrupt leaders are insensitive to our plight.

  15. Her crying reminds me of a poem...

    SONNET 30 PARAPHRASE
When to the sessions of sweet silent thought When in these sessions of gratifying silent thought
I summon up remembrance of things past, I think of the past,
I sigh the lack of many a thing I sought, I lament my failure to achieve all that I wanted,
And with old woes new wail my dear time's waste: And I sorrowfully remember that I wasted the best years of my life:
Then can I drown an eye, unused to flow, Then I can cry, although I am not used to crying,
For precious friends hid in death's dateless night, For dear friends now hid in death's unending night,
And weep afresh love's long since cancell'd woe, And cry again over woes that were long since healed,
And moan the expense of many a vanish'd sight: And lament the loss of many things that I have seen and loved:
Then can I grieve at grievances foregone, Then can I grieve over past griefs again,
And heavily from woe to woe tell o'er And sadly repeat (to myself) my woes
The sad account of fore-bemoaned moan, The sorrowful account of griefs already grieved for,
Which I new pay as if not paid before. Which (the account) I repay as if I had not paid before.
But if the while I think on thee, dear friend, But if I think of you while I am in this state of sadness, dear friend,
All losses are restor'd and sorrows end. All my losses are compensated for and my sorrow ends.

I mean if the President's wife breaking down like this, what hope is there for the rest of us??? The perpetrators must be hi fiving each for bringing the government to their knees. My advice for the President's wife or anyone from the government, is to stay away from the cameras if they cannot compose their selves!!!

Where are the mothers of both the kidnaped girls and the escapee girls? where are the pictures of the kidnaped girls? why are the numbers conflicticting? Why have there not been a press conference from WAEC and the School authority or even the state government showing pictures of the kidnapped girls and their parents, fathers or mothers? why have we not seen any father of the kidnaped girls speak? Rubish!

The children are not dead and we didn't pray for such, the parents are pain and that's why they need to come for resolution on how to profer solutions. So wake up your idea.

  25. Since there was no picture of a kidnapee, escapee and parents of kidnapee then let us find out who raised the false alarm.if there was a thing like that then let the school bring out the full list of candidates in that exam center.with that we can identify who is who..borno government should be brave enough to enforce this if he's sure of the claim.
    Thanks

  27. Why is the president allowing his wife disgrace Nigeria? He should have advised her on the extent of here ceremonial powers. Her cry to me is an afterthought. Sitting on a round table to blame people who are themselves traumatised will not yield success. Let her direct her cry to her husband.curruption will not allow them to think intelligently. The period that tthey should have fought the insurgents was spent on trying to negociate with them because of what people will benefit. Can this happen in a country like USA ? Yet some people compare themselves with political leaders like Mandela and co. Can we in all honesty compare ourselves to these great men? There is God o 2cw, chei, chei chei. Lol
