Presidency angry with CDS, Badeh, over Chibok girls’ sighting claim

The Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, has reportedly incurred the wrath of the Presidency over his claim that the military has sighted the 270 girls seized from the dormitory by Boko Haram terrorists last month.

President Jonathan, it was learnt Wednesday, was unhappy with the claim by the defence chief, which he considers as a breach of military tactics capable of hindering the move to free the children, who have been in the kidnappers’ den for the seven weeks running.

A top Presidency source revealed last night that the Jonathan considered the CDS claim as an unnecessary outburst, which could frustrate ongoing efforts by the multinational team currently in the country to salvage the girls.

The source, which did not want to be quoted because he was not authorised to speak to the press on the matter, said President Jonathan was still at a loss as to why Badeh made the statement at a time he was expected to be more cautious over the contentious issue, which is generating interest across the globe.

“Indeed the President is really upset over the claim and we do not know what will happen,” the source said but did not give further details.

It was further learnt that the claim by the CDS was the subject of analysis during the weekly security meeting between security chiefs and the President last Monday.

Badeh had during a solidarity rally organised by the Citizens Initiative for Security Awareness, led by its National Coordinator, Mr. Chidi Omeze, outside the Defence Headquarters, Abuja on Monday, said that the military was aware of the location of the Chibok girls and that something was being done to free them.

Badeh said: “The good news for the girls is that we know where they are but we cannot tell you, we cannot come and tell you military secrets here. Just leave us alone, we are working, we would get the girls back.”

He stated, “We want our girls back; we want our girls back; we can do it, our military can do it but where they are held, can we go with force?

“If we go with force, what will happen? So nobody should come and say the Nigerian military does not know what it is doing. We know what we are doing; we can’t go and kill our girls in the name of trying to get them back. So we are working,” he said.

The Chairman Senate Committee on Education, Senator Uche Chukwumerije, has also slammed Badeh over the claim, saying that it was unnecessary in counterproductive to the current move to free the children and reunite them with their parents.

  4. i believe of this calibre in the nigerian military, has made the biggest mistake, that will one way or the other undermine the efforts to freeing these girls. this is supposed to be covert, high intelligent report, this shows what are military is made up of. these are the same set of people that will tip and divulge intelligent information to the insurgents. the man is questionable.

  5. but we Nigerians are also to be blame because want the military to tells us how they are bringing back our girls. else some jobless ones would be organising "protest" for selfish reasons

  6. I don't understand the index of making someone an Army general; Generals that can't fight ordinary Boko Haram but only to intimidate ordinary civilians who pay their salaries and other entitlements. Honestly, I can't envisage what happens if Cameroon should invade Nigeria perhaps that could be the reason why Bakasi peninsular was ceded to Cameron sake of say we scared of going to battle.

Honestly, Bade is unfit; he ought to be dismissed with immediate effect. I watched the interview where he talked like a moron, very unfortunate we have people like Bade as a Chief of Defense staff under a quota system arrangement.

The other time General Olukolade confirmed that the abducted girls have regained their freedom while they were still in BH custody however, till today Olikolade is still there as Defense spoke man, so now tell me where the competency is or what justifies them as Army Generals ?

  11. All myhopic views. The mil has been given the mandate to bring back d girls ALIVE. The only way is through negotiation. Therefore, there is no reason to be covert about it. What needs to b kept secret is what will happen after the negotiation.

  15. That is the quality of people in public service in Nigeria, right from the airport coming into Nigeria, even the immigration officers will be irritating to visitors and citizens as they look so old, with lack of experties and rough, same goes to others government officials, for the once that are rich or with high post, stinky words and actions come out from their brain just like this senior officer....
We need to flush Nigeria and clean it up so we can have civilized and brainy people in position, we like to be like America.

  16. The late head of state of lybia Maman Gadafi once told his soldiers that if any of them want to be called an army general he should go to Nigeria. What he meant was that its in Nigeria you can be called an army general without experience. Most of our security officials are dondee, mumu. The only shap brain in their skull is how to embezzle money and steal our crude oil. Bloody illiterate who got to the rank by lobbing and quota system. Olodos in uniform. Even mr President does not help matters, Gen Bade should have been shown his way out of the army the day he claimed to have killed shakau without prevarication. Bade had the penchant to speak anyhow. Immediately he was appointed, out of joy for opportunity given to him to loot the military treasury, he did not know when he announced that the BH insurgency will end april2014. Now how far?
