Alao-Akala’s driver shot dead in Ibadan

Driver of the former Governor of Oyo State, Adebayo Alao-Akala, was on Friday shot dead by some gunmen in Ibadan after he stepped out of a bank.



Alao-Akala lost the governorship seat to the current governor, Abiola Ajimobi, in 2011.


Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olabisi Okuwobi-Ilobanafor, who confirmed the incident, said the deceased must have been attacked by armed robbers.


She said, "It is true that a man was killed by suspected armed robbers in Ibadan. We learnt that he went to a bank to collect some money. On his way, a man stopped him and had some discussion with him. Then, two men on a bike shot him and took the money from him.


"We are on the trail of the man that stopped him. We have begun investigation into the matter."


Attempt to reach the former governor by our correspondent was not successful as his telephone was busy.
