Taraba attacks: Jukun people warn Fulani herdsmen

The people of Jukun land in Southern Taraba State in Lagos have expressed displeasure over the continuous attack on their homeland where scores of people had been killed allegedly by Fulani herdsmen, vowing to defend themselves against further attacks, if the Federal Government failed to do the needful.

Gunmen had last Tuesday, attacked Gidan Aku on the outskirts of Wukari Local Government Area, killing over 50 persons and injuring many others.

Acting under the platform of Jukun Development Association of Nigeria, the people at a media conference in Lagos, claimed that nine villages had been sacked by the Fulani invaders, while Jukun people had been forced to stay indoor, following a 24-hour curfew declared five days ago.

President of the association, Mr. Benjamin Bako, described what was going on in Wukari at present as genocide and imprisonment in the guise of curfew.

Bako, who was in company of all members of the executive of the association, explained: “We earlier thought the crisis is having Fulani’s face, but when we saw the type of weapons the attackers possessed, we are convinced that the sudden attack on Jukunland has political undertone.
