SSCE: Borno LG chairman offers car to candidate with 9 credits

The Caretaker Chairman of Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State, Alhaji Zannah Modu Gubio, has pledged a brand new car to any student from the area who got nine credits in the ongoing Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (SSCE).

The council chairman made the pledge in Gubio, headquarters of the council while seeing off students of Government Secondary School, Gubio. It would be recalled that in 2011 SSCE, only two students passed English and Mathematics at credit level in the whole of Northern Borno Senatorial District, and even these lucky students.

The two students, it was gathered were not Borno indigenes, but that their fathers were military personnel posted to Monguno Barracks.

The council Boss also said government would take responsibility of the transportation to and from Maiduguri of the candidates, following the insecurity occasioned by the Boko Haram insurgents.

The chairman also promised to purchase Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examination form to any candidate with 5 credits including Mathematics and English Language, with scholarship to any university of his/her choice in the country.

Alhaji Gubio then donated 140 mats, 140 buckets and 150 plastic kettles to the candidates and charged them to work hard to pass their exams and get the reward awaiting them. Speaking on behalf of the candidates, Ali Garba thanked the chairman for the gesture and promised not to fail the council, but working hard to win the awards promised by the chairman.

  1. Awarding scholarship to the candidates is a good gesture but the car gift will not add any value to the students' education at this stage. Any thing that will encourage them to study harder is the kind of thing or gift that should be given a due consideration.
