Tunde Bakare blasts President Jonathan for giving him a cow as Christmas gift

The presiding overseer of the Latter Rain Church and the convener of Save Nigeria Group, Pastor Tunde Bakare has lambasted the Presidency for giving him a cow as gift this Christmas.

He told his congregation in Lagos, sothwest Nigeria, on Sunday that he did not soilicit for the cow which he said was dumped at the office of the Save Nigeria Group, SNG, in Lagos by people from the Presidency.

According to Bakare, “I had a cow from the Presidency. I didn’t ask for it. They dropped it at the Save Nigeria Group office… But is it cow that we need? If you check their books, one cow could have been bought for $5,000. The rest of the money is pocketed! We don’t need cow, we need a country that will move forward!”

He added that “they prevailed on me not to return it. Thanks for the cow, but no thanks! That means no cow for me next year (laughs). But we will have good roads, schools etc! We are the cause of our problems. We feel big when Mr President sends us hampers etc… We go to them for contracts etc… Until we change ourselves, we cannot expect change from those who lead us!”

He said the way things are going, very soon people in power will be giving out elephants as gift during festive periods, saying it was wasteful to give such gifts when the money used in purchasing them could be used to provide hospitals, good roads, schools, etc.

He announced that he was giving out the cow, adding that the problem with Nigeria was that the nation has low men in high places.

  2. my learned pastor talks too much. They give you, you talk; they don't give you, you talk. Can you spare us your comments on frivolous issues. At the pinacle of a respected man of God, we expect your comment or advice on serious national issues not on cow gift. We ought to learn to respect instituted authority because they are of God. Politics can never combine with religion, especially in Nigeria. Beloved, take it easy because you are a respected clergy who must be heardrightly on right issues.

    1. It is healthy for transformation. Keeping quiet is waiting for another generation to rise up for the future generations. More too, it is ludicrous to believe that Nigeria is aggressively on the right path to restoring value & dignity to her citizenry

    2. @ Johann, you call the issue of a president giving out a cow gift we all know they woukd have looted the fund for the purchase while neglecting the basic needs of the citizenry a frivilous matter? You are part of the reason we have of low reasoning in high places. What exactly are you suggesting that bakare do in this case?

  8. While on earth, Jesus Christ whom you claim to be your exemplary once declined an attempt to crown him a king. Indeed he fled the scene! The lesson here is that it is improper for clergymen to meddle in worldly politics. Take note and amend your ways please

  9. All those against Bakares lash out are simply miopic. Politician influence vote with wrappers and salt. Jonathan is just to dull to understand that Bakare is a radical that can mess him up even if he is given aeroplane.

  10. don't really understand why this man keeps seeking for cheap publicity. if you are bold enough to condemn an xmas gift, then you should be bold enough to reject it in its entirety instead of ranting noise after receiving. you cannot approbate and reprobate at the same time. it is on record that late gani fawehinmi outrightly rejected and returned a ram gift from tinubu. that's the way to go.

  11. By their fruit u shall know them, they prevailed on you and u accepted, what difference does it make? What makes you different from the man u are crusifying everyday?
Spread the gospel, stop politics. Because GEJ defeated Buahari/you in the last election, is it the crime the GEJ commited, politics is not a do or die affair, if you loose, support the winner cos there can't be two winners is either you are a looser or a winner.
What makes u think u will perform better than GEJ? May God save us christians from wolves in sheep skin.

  12. let all of us hold unto Allah and see how he will control our nation for us. without Allah; Nigerian will never move forward because both the leader and the followers have not fear of Allah in there mind, How can the nation move forward? when everybody is thinking about his own family.

  13. To all the commentators except anonymous of 11:42: You are all fools and people like you are really the problems of Nigeria and a cog in the wheel of progress. You people hate truth and so will die miserably as these politicians will keep fooling you and feeding you only when they need your votes. Bakare is saying the truth, yet some of you are here talking nonsense -

I wonder when we'll truly move forward in this country, like mr bakare rightly said,we need to change ourselves failure to do that will means we'll be ruled bby idiots,do you know how many cows, rice, chicken that govt shared during festive period and the cost?the money spent on this gifts can be used to develop our infrastructures,we do not need gift. From govt,we need gainful employment so that we can afford the gift ourselves.

  18. The comments i read here are really absurd. Instead of us to applaud a man for rejecting a greek gift sent to him by a corrupt govt we are crucufying him. And we want to move forward. The same nigerians who complain that men of God are not helping the country but are only after money and riches now crucify a pastor for rejecting same????
When are we going to open our eyes in this country and speak the truth without sentiments. The money spent buying cows and gifts to pastors could have been spent making life better for millions of nigerians during this season giving than giving it to pastor bakare and other pastors who dont need it.

  19. Hahhhh!!! Damn!! With most comments above Nigeria is doomed(sorry abt the word) but that's the fact, Pastor Bakare behaved as a normal being that wants to see corruption out of the system! And there are comments against that or this man. What has his religion/ politics has to do with this? Why will he just wake up and say jonathan sent him a cow if he(GEJ) didn't sent one? What will he gain by making such statement? He said it cz he realised its abnormal. Presently for the country this not time for gift sharing, this is the time to reflect on the state of the economy and make necessary changes, most countries are leaving us behind in terms of infrastructures and power generation.

    Malik.

  20. The content of some of the messages in this forum shows the level of illiteracy in Nigeria today. If we have this level of illiterate Nigerians it means Nigerians are the architect of their problems, especially corruption.

Pastor Bakare spoke out because it is only fools that will keep silent in the face of corruption in any manner it is presented. Nigeria is wallowing in corrupt practices and only a few people think about it.

  21. To me it is only show up/politics of acrimony. This same man a religious fanatic used to capture the xtians and later strangle them but God didn't allow it.Is he now achange person or seeking for position from the ishmaelites. They've blinded ur eyes.Do u forget,u are to rebuke with love. This public anouncement shows that there is a hidden agenda.Joseph wanted to leave Mary quietly because he fears the lord.David said he will not do that to the anointed king.If u r truely a man of God, this doesn't befit u it is clearly blackmail.

    2. The two of u up here are the reason some people say blackmen don't read. Didnt you read in the report that he made the announcement in church? And the fact that it was delivered to sng office doesnt mean the gift was not sent to him...or is he no longer the convener.
Guy lets comment without sentiments. The govt gave him a gift he rejected it cos he thought its ae bribe. Is dat one bad again? If e accept naw una go dey shout ole pastor. Ehn i tire for naija o

  22. Why go to the media to denounce the gift. Am amazed. Why not quietly call the person who brought the cow to take it back?m please,we don't know the relationship you had in the past that made him give you cow so why involve the public. Shame, shame, shame.

  26. How sure the pastor is, that the cow was from presidency. Can he really prove it that the presidency sent a cow all the way from Abuja to Lagos to him. Or is it normal every December he receives such gifts?
This is because anybody can send cow to him and said it is from above, which can be interpreted to be from governor or president.
