FIFA picks Nigerian referee for Club World Cup


Nigeria continues to shine in the firmament of world football, the latest being the invitation of Peter Edibi as one of the referees that will officiate at the FIFA Club World Cup Morocco 2013, scheduled to hold in Agadir and Marakech from December 11 to 21


A letter by the FIFA Referees Committee which was sent to the referee and copied Mr Linus Mba, FIFA Referees advisor and Consultant to the NFF on Refereeing asked the referee to report at the Palmeraie Golf Palace Hotel in Marrrakech by December 4.

Peter Edibi is one of the six African referees invited, the others being Gassama Bakary Papa of Gambia ( who will handle Nigeria’s match against Ethiopia this week end ) Alioum Neant of Cameroun, Ogbamarien Angeson of Eritrea, Kabanda Felicien of Rwanda and Menkwande Evarist of Cameroun.

Bayern Munich, European Champions and favourites to lift the trophy have drawn bye and lie in wait for the winner of the confrontation between African Champions Al Ahly and the Asian Champions.

Also to feature are Raja Cassablanca as host, CONCACAF Champions CF Monterey of Mexico, South American champions Clubbe Athletico Mineiro of Brazil and Auckland FC of New Zealand.

  1. Its not time to celebrate yet. This is a small achievement as Referees from smaller African countries have been participating at CAF and FIFA organised tournament. Nonsense!
