Doctor's Strike: Patients discharged prematurely by UCH regardless of their condition.

The strike by resident doctors has started taking its toll on the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

In-patients are being discharged prematurely by the management, regardless of their condition.

They were told to go home or patronise private hospitals, as doctors failed to report for work.

It was gathered that some in-patients, whose conditions were critical, were given first aid treatment by nurses before they were discharged.

Yesterday, the emergency wards were empty.

President of the the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), UCH chapter, Babatunde Babasanya, said the strike would continue until their demands were met.

UCH’s Chief Information Officer Toye Akinrinlola said the hospital’s management met with the doctors, but they insisted that they would not suspend the strike until their money was paid.

Akinrinlola said: “We appealed to them, but they stood their ground. We will continue to talk to them and we hope the strike will be suspended soon.”

Resident doctors have been on strike since October 1 over the non-payment of their four months’ salary and inadequate funding of residency training programmes.

  2. Some times i wonder if we do have common sense cos if we do, we will know that if all things being equal, FG won't hesitate to fulfill all its promises. Have we ever thought of where the money being spent on war against insurgency, militancy, kidnapping, robbery, e.t.c are coming from? Or don't we know that FG budgeted so much for defense?

  3. @ Anonymous 10:22, I agreed with you that government spends money on civil unrest but what happens to the other money? Or you've forgotten that only National assembly has a 5% of our National budget, GEJ upkeep allowance runs billion per annum, using $ 250,000,00 to buy an armored cars, payment of unrealistic fuel subsidy, contract inflation etcetera.

Look we don't have government in this country unless we continue deceiving ourselves .

I suggest it will be better if our so called mumu leaders can hands-up for Oyinbo to come and be ruling us.

I know many people must criticize but no wahala.

  4. The fact you must not fail to realise is that misappropriation and embesslement of public funds is the major problem the Nigerian govt is battling with. If God were to expose the real value of funds misappropriated and embezzled by our people in govt, you'll see that it's enough to resolve all these problems we have. It has gone chronic, anyone craving to get into the corridors of power today has the dream of becoming super rich when he/she gets there. So you see why they can not do without stealing public funds.
