The Bitter Truth About The Yorubas - Onyiorah Chiduluemije

No doubt, the unwarranted and deplorable deportation of no less than 72 Igbo folks to Onitsha, Anambra state, recently by the Lagos State Government and the resultant increasing reactions emanating from virtually all and sundry across the ethnic spectrum of the parties involved, the Igbo and the Yoruba, have obviously come to a point that I am once more impelled to bluntly revisit some historical facts with a view to correcting certain balderdash and canards being masqueraded and propagated as historical facts by some rabid rabble-rousers like the Femi Fani-Kayodes.

But before I proceed, it is pertinent to use this opportunity to make one point public, which until now was kept personal. I was long before now told by a friend, during Olusegun Obasanjo’s democratic “regime” to be precise, that no sooner would the Yoruba complete their tenure of Obasanjo’s presidency than they would go the whole hog of scheming and, at some point, conspiring to truncate the entire democratic process, for the simple reason that they have taken their own turn of ruling the country. According to my friend, who with hindsight sounded prophetic, theirs would be that the bridge can now break since they have crossed it. It is therefore no exaggeration to submit in the light of the foregoing, that the conducts, unguarded utterances and feigned democratic posturing of some Yoruba elements since the exit of President Olusegun Obasanjo from the Aso villa do not seem to rebut this assertion of their predictable inclination to playing a spoiler’s game.

However, let us now go back to the burgeoning reactions and some of the hogwash arising from Fashola’s deportation saga. As we have heard from Femi Fani-Kayode that the Igbo contributions to the development of Lagos state are not only infinitesimal but insignificant. That is Fani-Kayode for you. Much as the lesson from Igbo world view teaches that two persons do not go demented at the same time, the fact is that there is an urgent need to apprehend a newly deranged fellow with a view to beginning the process of healing him before he goes into the market square and runs amok. In essence, the truth must be told to Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode and members of his school of thought. To begin with, it will be nice to draw the attention of this rabble-rouser to the monumental input of Sir Louis Ojukwu, the father of Dim Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu, and his ilk to the development of Lagos during the colonial era, the proofs of which are still there to behold. And for more on this, please see Orji Kalu’s piece in THE SUN Newspaper of August 10, 2013 titled Deportation: Fashola got it wrong. Thus, that Lagos state is today regarded as the commercial nerve center or the economic capital of Nigeria is not unconnected with the Igbo enterprising spirit, acumen, diligence and sundry other virtues they have brought to bear on this city that the Kayode elements now strut around to beat their chest in a showmanship claim of ownership. This is indeed ownership by words of mouth born out of sheer wickedness of envying the builders of the edifice.

The Kayodes believe that the hospitality which Nigerians fought for in Lagos and as such are now enjoying is a mark or evidence of their so-called civilization. Though it will be wrong and unfair to say that all Yoruba are not tolerant towards people of other Nigerian enclaves or that all are lacking in hospitality, yet it must not be forgotten that it was basically because of the unprecedented hostility and Kayode’s brand of jingoism exhibited by the old Yoruba people of Lagos, who historians professionally refer to as “Lagos crowd”, to the Sarduana of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello, and other members of the  Northern parliament, in the wake of the motion of self-government mooted by Chief Anthony Enahoro ( a member of Awolowo’s Action Group), that not only made  Northern Parliamentarians to swear that they would never come back to Lagos for any other deliberation on any issue, but also prompted them to quickly draw up an eight point programme approved by the joint session of Northern House of Assembly and Chiefs in 1953 wherein a firm demand was made by them that Lagos be designated a Federal Capital separated from the Western region.

It is thus imperative to state it clearly, that it was nothing short of the Yoruba intolerance and tendencies to shortchange people of other nationalities in the South-Western region that brought about the carving out of Lagos from the region and its eventual designation then as the Federal Capital Territory, in order for the lives and rights of the non-Yoruba to be adequately safeguarded. Incidentally, given this new status which by implication meant that the “Kayodes” could no longer assault other people without incurring for themselves the wrath of the national government and that of other Nigerians in general, the Yoruba have thus embraced the reality of what the Kayodes now delude themselves to be the evidence of their civilization.

More so, that the Yoruba whole-heartedly welcomed and incorporated Ndigbo into their fold at the end of the Nigeria-Biafra war is yet another fallacy that can only emanate from the self-styled “servant of truth.” This Kayode’s futile attempt to create the impression that the Yoruba showed rare “magnanimity” to Ndigbo soon after the end of the civil war is not only comical but preposterous in all ramifications. Where do we even begin to look at the whole issue? Do we begin by talking about Awolowo’s evil policy of doling out the paltry sum of twenty pounds to Ndigbo who at the time had much more than such amount in their respective bank accounts? Or, are we to delve into Awolowo’s indigenization programme that was launched afterwards to make sure that Ndigbo did not participate and/or “were in no position to buy into any company”? In fact, nothing speaks volumes about Kayode’s fallacy than General Yakubu Gowon’s point of view on this subject, as follows: “The government of Obasanjo, I think between 1975 and 79, speeded up taking over some of the big businesses, especially in Lagos, which was to the advantage of his people, because they were the ones on the spot, and a lot their people were in the banks and knew how to use the banks to give loans to their own people to buy some of these things. But this was not the case in other parts of the country. So when it comes to that, you can rest assured that it was not only the Igbo that felt out, other parts of the country that were not as well positioned as the people from the West felt the same way.” Of course from the foregoing, we all can see how much the Yoruba showed love and care to other Nigerians and/or Ndigbo at the end of the war, especially in Lagos.

It is worthy to note that the evil of the abandoned property perpetrated against Ndigbo in the aftermath of the Nigeria-Biafra civil war would not have arisen, much less of spreading across the length and breadth of Nigeria, if not for the earlier foundational mindset of “let us use this opportunity to undermine and dispossess the Igbo”- which was created and nurtured by Chief Obafemi Awolowo and his cohorts.

Besides, the issue of the confiscation of Dim Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu’s father’s property in Lagos state and the ensuing litigation that rendered such untoward move impossible cannot adequately be discussed in isolation of the general issue of post-civil war abandoned property saga. Surely one has no illusions about the involvement of some Yoruba legal luminaries in the case, which is why I did say abini tio that not all Yoruba are intolerant or inconsiderate. But even at that, the big question remains: would it not have been a preferable lesser devil’s alternative for Igbo property at the time to be commandeered by the Federal Government and the people alike than for the cruel economic policies designed and implemented by Chief Obafemi Awolowo which dehumanized and occasioned avoidable and untimely demise of scores of Ndigbo?

Now, on the handing of the leadership of the NCNC over to Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe by Herbert Macaulay “on his death bed, as articulated by the Yoruba “servant of truth”, one wonders why it has not dawned on the Fani-Kayodes that it was because of the rare detriabalised inclination of Azikiwe coupled with his competence, fearlessness, courage, exposure, sound educational advantage, pan-Africanist diposition and, above all, his unalloyed loyalty and impeccable track records as the part’s scribe that earned him such recognition and elevation from Macaulay  whose origin is reportedly traceable to Sierraleone and not Yoruba, contrary to Fani-Kayode’s ignorance. And it is really unfortunate that Kayode does not know or rather pretends not to know that Macaulay never saw the Yoruba leaders at the time, even with their so-called early education, as being serious-minded enough to deserve the mantle of leadership of the NCNC. Indeed, going by the monumental achievements of the NCNC under the leadership of Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, one cannot but commend the great Macaulay for his foresight and/or clairvoyance.

Meanwhile, Fan-Kayode has mentioned that the Yoruba have always been decades ahead of Ndigbo in the area of acquisition of western education and so are more educated than them. As curious as this assertion is, it still boggles one’s mind where all those educated Yoruba people were when Igbo sons in the persons of Prof. Keneth Dike and Prof. Eni Njoku became the first indigenous Vice- Chancellors of University of Lagos and University of Ibadan respectively. Anyway, it is key to note that Ndigbo do not subscribe to the idea of quantitative education which Chief Awolowo’s so-called free education programme epitomized and promoted. Rather, Ndigbo attach premium to qualitative education which in the main accounts for why the world will never cease to celebrate personalities like Prof. Chinua Achebe, Prof. Philip Emeagwali, Prof.

Bath Nnaji, Prof. Ndi Okereke Onyiauke, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Dr Oby Ezekwesili,  Chimamanda Adichie, name them yourself. Lest we forget, needless to say that Awolowo’s so-called free education policy was anchored more on the production of certificated persons than truly educated minds, a trend that is still ongoing in Yoruba land. No wonder that some people are really tempted to ask what the country has benefited from having all these   certificated Yoruba elements.

Again it is important to disabuse the warped mind of Mr. Fani-Kayode in respect of his wild claim that the mere emergence of Chief Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme as the Vice-president of Federal Republic of Nigeria, a decade after the end of the civil war, rendered the fact of Igbo marginalization non-existent. As laughable as this claim is, It makes sense to let the Kayodes know that the reluctance of the North to make their choice of who became the Vice-President to Alhaji Shehu Shagari in the second republic from the South-West was not unconnected with the notorious records of Yoruba treachery which was well manifested and clearly understood from the actions and inactions of Chief Obafemi Awolowo and his tribes men before, during and after the Nigeria-Biafra civil war. So the sooner the Kayodes realize the fact that the rest of the Nigerian people always see them as a set of very unreliable elements and begin to amend their ways for good, the better for them.

As for Kayode’s distorted narratives about the 1966 military coup and counter-coup, it will only suffice to say in a nutshell that there are things that are too shameful for a presumably educated mind to delight in fussing about them. Agreed, Col. Fajui died when General Agui-Ironsi was his guest in Ibadan, but if by Kayode’s account that Major-General T.Y Dajuma “obliged” Fajui his request by slaughtering him just like that, without the latter putting up a good fight in defence his life and/or even that of his boss, then we cannot rule out the fact of cowardice on Fajui’s side, on the whole. More importantly, it must be noted that Brigadier-General Ogudipe who apparently abdicated in favour of Col. Yakubu Gowon, his junior, for fear of being harmed or murdered did in fact receive unalloyed support from Col. Chukwuemeka Ojukwu before he (Ogundipe) eventually chickened out. And it was even because of Brigadier-General Ogundipe that Col. Ojukwu refused to recognize the imposition of the then Col. Yakubu Gowon as the Head state, which in part was what triggered off the civil war. Essentially, to say that Ndigbo had suffered because of the denial of the Yoruba their right and/or rightful place in the annals of the history of this country is an understatement.
More recently, it may even interest the Kayodes to know that it was an Igbo, the incumbent Chief of Army Staff - Lt. General Azubike Ihejirika - that restored the ranks and the promotion of a Yoruba military officer, Major-General Adebayo Olaniyi, who incidentally is the current General Officer Commanding 82 Division of the Nigeria Army, Enugu.

But be it as it may be, the point is that the Kayodes are at liberty to be blowing hot in an attempt provoke Ndigbo in order to test their venom, but they should not forget that the Igbo bite is as poisonous as that of ichieteka snake that rarely comes out bite. But when it does, its victim(s) rarely lasts to see tomorrow which is not only a reflection of its deadly nature, but that of its name - ichieteka.

Finally, it will suffice for us all to realize that the censure for not talking the talk goes to the mouth, while that of not hearing to understand is squarely that of the ears. This message is solely for the Kayodes.

    1. Watery write up. Dis dude is just shooting blanks. Poor point score. I know for sure dt yorubas record our movements around d globe when some of our people were taken up by slavery by d whites. Many according to historical accounts were returned to Sierra leonne including several yorubass. Americans returnned varying tribes of slaves including some of Yoruba to Liberia. Lagos was a drop off point too for several Yoruba inland tribes. Yoruba owing to the effect of migration and slavery are scattered round the world to places like Jamaica,Haiti,Brazil,Togo, cotonu and several islands in the world. Even ibadan was formed by all Yoruba tribes. Lagos as I said earlier was d drop off point for returned slaves and though some of the returned people retained the names of there masters you see dis in several areas in lagos and families wt English surnames.
We the Yorubas have been civilised longer than any other tribe in Nigeria and we record history. We don't deny a Sierra leonnian dt is a true son of omo odua. You got that wrong as you got everything you've written wrong. Better luck scoring next time.

It is one of d largest tribes in Cuba. What am saying in essence is that this three Cubans that I met though they were whites told me that they are yorubas. They still know there roots. U only mentioned one yoruba officer he promoted n that is because he promoted all his ndigbo brothers to d detriment of other deserving VERY senior officers. He pushed d junior ndigbo officers ahead. I'm in d army n know these things first hand. Go back n do your research properly. U shouldn't have even mentioned Ihejirikas tenure in your write up. That alone has discredited the entire article!

Dysfunctional marriages come with a lot of abuse and when it involves loss of lives, we don’t need to procrastinate on separation. It won’t stop mixed marriages from happening or inter-country trade but it will definitely reduce the tribal, political and religious tensions across the country.

But leave the Yoruba pple alone don't hold them to ransome for your success or progress. Be a man and lead your pple out of the dungeon of hatred and lamentation.
I feel pity for you pple as per the presidency of ds country but u have got to put your acts together. He that wants to be befriended must first make himself be seen as a friend. Does that sound like a true Nigerian? An indigbo man advocating for a reelection or reappointment of an underperforming president and a failed govt. Is that the principle of Ndigbo been showcased by an elder stateman?
If Ndigbo becomes president in 2015 will Nigeria be better for it? Or will it be a time of revenge and acquisition of wealth and resources to the east? Will there be blood letting? Perhaps that govt will declare that Lagos is officially 'No man's land"! Lol.

I'am Igbo, and yes we have our problems just like every other tribe in the world. I dont know much about history but the little I know is that we the Igbos always feel marginalized in Nigeria, and its expected that in such presentation, they will try to defend themselves, whether right or wrong.

So implore we stop all these exchange of words between the two tribes and live as one Nigeria.

  33. Why do the Ibo people continue to peddle lies about the number of people 'deported' by Lagos State government? Ibo people claim it was 72, The number one citizen of the state, Babatunde Raji Fashola came out to say it was 14 people and his official showed documented evidence of the number (14) and names of people 'deported', as outlined in the letter Lagos state government sent to Anambra State government.

It seems the only truth in town is one from Ibo perspective. Any other point is not acceptable. Very strange. One can only but concluded that there are ulterior motives to the unnecessary storm.

  34. See what fasholas irresponsible act as caused.Let the truth be told lagos state govt is the cause of all this and should apologise to all and sundry for their unlawful act. Beggers or not, criminals or not; the law does not empower any state govt to deport anyone from one state to the other; period. Im heard femi falana talk about this but what about our other senior advocates and the NBA as a body. They are all conveniently silent on this. Lets all remember that all it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to remain silent. As for FFK and the writer of this article; i think a word is enough for the wise. Personally i think FFK was just looking for cheap attention and he has succeeded in drawing attention to himself just as he did to get into Obasanjo cabinet. I dont think any sensible thinking person takes him very serious in Nigeria. Hes also trying to draw attention away from his court case for alleged corruption so you can excuse his diarrhea of the mouth. As to the various other responses i have read in response to his article, i think you writers should have been more mature and played the "silence is the best answer for a fool' and not played to his ethnic and tribal bias. You should all be asking him to account for our collective money that he stole while in government. FFK has made his own progressive statement as a new disciple of the all progressive congress. As a new party man he has to make a statement at least to support one of his own.

The Yorubas is a very BIG-TRIBE dat's presently existing in countries like Brazil, Peru, Cuba etc and they are not push-over like the Igbos in Nigeria dat are invaders and intruders, if you go round all the Yoruba states and you want to rent an apartment frm a landlord, d first question d landlord will ask you is are you an Igbo-man or woman bcz history always says dat d Yorubas hate d Igbos too much and I want to assure all writers here dat d Yorubas are greater than the Igbos, time shall tell who owns Lagos, why can't d Igbos go to Kano, Maiduguri, Sokoto to say dey own does towns, memory back to all d non-Hausas dat have been killed in d North since d time of Gowon-regime, d Igbos carry d largest numbers of casuality, dis is to show how d other Tribes in Nigeria hate d Igbos, the so called Igbos shuld beware of another massacar coming upon them frm d elite and GOD-favoured Yoruba-Kingdom

I am proudly Yoruba but with very many friends of Ibo extraction and my experience with them has not been different from that with other tribes, the difference has been in individual human attitude and not tribe. I see people using tribal stereotypes as little minds who don't see beyond their noses, sadly the error of Fashola's action has been drowned by the ill advised reactions of ethnic jingoists who sought to make political capital out of it. This writer, FFK and their ilk do not mean well for us and should be denounced by well meaning Nigerians

In response to his revealation, we only see attacks from the Ndigbos to the personality of Femi; one that is not sufficient to cleansen them of the matters that are arisen. Its so shamefull how they attack the personlity of FFK instead of making Nigeria know what happened historically. If I were to rate this article, it will not score a tenth and to think it is coming from a journalist... Uhmmm... I think Femi has exposed them and their evil ways and there just isn't enough defence for them to cover-up.

  51. The fact still remain that we did not address issue appropriately. Deporting is too bad because some of these people living in Lagos could afford living in Lagos presently as a result of high cost of living. Even though Lagos used to be Federal capital its still belong some people biological. I still have my fact of properties belong to Igbos in the north before Biafra War and the could lay claim to it then can you say Yoruba are bad, we can deny the fact same could happen in the East a result of the War. I see these writer as some who want to get cheap popularity instead let the deportation teaches to those moving to Abuja to Develop their Area. The Opinion writer about Col. Adekunle Fajuyi is a flippant talk when we know that no military coup will be one side shoot like film acting. I living to understand while Biafra fail is mainly because material to succinct is no in place because East undermine Yoruba Competence which is the same present knowledge is strongest weapon.   54. @Anonymous "August 13, 2013 at 11:26 AM", very funny embarassing you said Philip is not a Prof:Just for the records;

Philip Emeagwali's father went to school with Chike Obi, the first African to get a Ph.D. in Mathematics. Philip Emeagwali was born in 1954 in Nigeria. He was raised in the town of Onitsha which is located in South-Eastern Nigeria. Dubbed "Calculus" by schoolmates, Emeagwali at age 14 had mastered the subject, and could even out-calculate his instructors. Then a crisis struck. He had to drop out of school because his family could not afford to send all eight children. But he continued studying on his own, and after getting a general certificate of education from the University of London. At the age of 17, he was awarded a full scholarship to Oregon State University where he majored in math. Upon graduation, he attended George Washington University and was awarded two engineering master's degrees, one in civil engineering and the other in marine engineering, a master's in mathematics from the University of Maryland. He later achieved his doctorate from the University of Michigan in civil engineering (really scientific computing). Philip Emeagwali's greatest achievement, that warranted him the most praise, was The Connection Machine.

  55. The caption for this write up really caught my attention to the extend that it was the first story I really went ahead to read. The Bitter Truth About The Yorubas. I believe so much that one will be informed at the end.

Reading the second paragraph, I was disappointed. Even without reading further, it shows that the writer response was based on sentiment and equally biased. I am not saying that what FFK wrote about the Igbos are totally true and I don't agree with all what he postulated in his write up. But to say that Yoruba plan was to truncate the democracy after their own tenure based on friend ear says speak volume of the writer psyche.

If you want to advance any argument or comment it should be free of sentiment. Onyiorah, you missed it from the beginning and first impression last longer.

Claims and counter-claims that add no measurable value to nation building. The nations that are known to be great were built by "men" that do not have parochial mind-sets. The Emirate that has become the beacon for everyone today was built by "men" that made up their minds to built a nation that "cared" for "all", willing to accommodate "all", and ready to give "all".

  58. coming late this evening to drop my contribution to the on-going debate about between the Yorubas and the Igbos..., anyway i have been following all the write-ups since my learned and respected brother named Femi Fanikayode dropped the bombshell, to my own believe, the man Femi has actually said everything that i would have said on written about this article, Lagos belongs to only the Yorubas and NOT the Igbos as earlier claimed by one of their kinsmen - Kalu orji Kalu, he did not understand the history of the Yorubas not to talk of lagos herself, Yorubas has a very wide origin from all over the world and you will see a Yoruba man or woman in Brazil, Peru, Cuba etc, some part of Brazil are even speaking the real native Yoruba language and their is a town in Brazil that their kings title is ALAFIN, so the Igbos has not claim on lagos bcz the Yorubas are the first settlers in lagos, if not for the human mercy that the Late Sage, Baba-Awolowo has for the igbos after the civil war, i think the igbos would have been washed away from the entire country by now, anyway i want to implore all the igbos to start moving towards their native towns now bcz it might look like a film now but when it starts, they might not be able to handle the repercussions, honestly it will be worse than what happened in Rwanda between the Tutsi and the Hutus tribes which over a million was killed in 100 days, people shuold also remember what happened between the Isekiri and the Urobos years back despite the fact that that almost speak the same language and have inter married each other, this is how it all started in Rwanda......

  59. I am convinced, we have read enough about these write ups. My submission is that we should not allow the professional politicians to use us to their advantage. They are very happy about FFK submission. I strongly believe that the average Nigerians should concentrate more on how to totally eradicate corruption, nepotism and tribalism in the country. If we all concentrate on working together for the peace of the country, why should anybody be doubtful of his or her free movement in the country. Unfortunately, politicians have cleverly manipulated the average Nigerians to their advantage. Judging from the outcry, one would conclude that Nigerians should learn to work together amicably, be free from tribal sentiments and work hard toward achieving peace and harmony among themselves. I strongly believe in one Nigeria and this is why I will not encourage disintegration of the country. The world at large is watching Nigeria as a potential giant that will one day liberate the entire black race from economic slavery. The youths must learn to match forward not backward. The intermarriage that is now prominent in the country should be further encouraged not racism and fear of domination.

  68. I really dont see the need for all these altercations or utterances by the two major tribes in this country over an article written by FFK.Seeing the caption of the artice,I knew it was going to attract a counter write up from someone of the affected tribe and honestly I did not read all the piece because obviously it was not going to be all pallatable.

In the first place FFK, a one time Aviation minister in this country has attained one of the enviable positions in this country and should be seen as a public figure. He should bear this in mind and really display that maturity at all times and make comments as a stateman thath should be deviod of tribal sentiments, foul language, misleading or inflammatory statements which is expected of every other past or serving ministers. But I am surprised at FFK's most public speaches.I think something is wrong somewhere.Sanity or maturity in my own candid opinion should be seen as a gap here and could be verified. The question is where is the connection of the write up of ''the bitter truth about the igbos'' by FFK with the deportation of the igbos to Anambra state by the BRF government? What is the actual intent of FFK and what is he aiming at when he wrote that article? These are some of the questions the entire tribe should be asking and getting answers to them than joining issues or opening up old wounds. Will stating that an Igbo man is the most industrious or most dubious or that a yoruba man is the most educated or tracherous or unreliable or that the housa man is that or this, change for good the comatous systems or the corruption that is the main bane of our country's progressive development?
Why not let us forget what FFK wrote and chant a course of rooting out corrupt leaders out of our systems like was done by Jerry Wralings of Ghana some years back(NOT ADVOCATING HIS OWN METHOD THOUGH BUT BY A MEANS SPIRITUALLY OR LEGALLY/POLITICALLY POSSIBLE) so that Nigeria will one day be a liberal country like United States of America where people are judged by the content of their character and not by the colour of their skin,in the words of martin luther king jr.A country where no one is seen as an Igbo or Yoruba or Hausa man but as a competent individual who can deliver and make meaningful contributions to the development of the nation and vote or be voted for on that basis irrespectve of where he/she resides or chooses to do business.Let us think Nigerian youth.

  69. Good Eugene but Orji Kalu’s piece in THE SUN Newspaper of August 10, 2013 titled Deportation: Fashola got it wrong. Thus, that Lagos state is today regarded as the commercial nerve center or the economic capital of Nigeria is not unconnected with the Igbo enterprising spirit, acumen, diligence and sundry other virtues they have brought to bear on this city that the Kayode elements now strut around to beat their chest in a showmanship claim of ownership rather than say this I right thinking Governor should come up with Ideas and Policy to tackle mass urban and City movement with state of art amenities and call for proper legislation causes of the action the I did blame the Governors, House of Rep. Members and Senators well they are all doing what they are best. We can not achieve anything If we Continue with Haring Monkey in the Banana Farm then realising liberal Nigeria as a country like United States of America where people are judged by the content of their character and not by the colour of their skin from Martin Luther King Jr Ideology .A country where no one is seen as a Tribe but as a competent individual who can deliver and make meaningful contributions to the development of the nation and vote or be voted for on that basis irrespectve of where he/she resides or chooses to do business. A new rule for ruler that will equal Education opportunity without education less disadvantage policy favouring tribe and stop this stupid spending on governance where politician takes millions monthly while average income of majority of the voter less than (N50000) fifty thousand Naira. 72. It is a pity that Fani-Kayode wrote distorted facts about the civil war and Igbos. Like many of his ilks in the Yoruba stock his write-up has shown that he is very tribalistic and that he hates Igbos. He lacks facts about the civil war and the Igbos. I am not surprised that theYorubas writing in response to his article are echoing what he said because they don't know the history and the origin of the civil war. They are also ignorant of the history about the development of Lagos. Igbos are not claiming Lagos. What they say is that they have contributed immensely to the development of Lagos more than even the Yorubas who claim Lagos is their own and should not have been treated the way Fashola has done by deporting the Igbos. Chinua Achebe, in his book has said much with facts about Yorubas and Awolowo. I will stop here for the meantime until when I think it is ripe for me to write about the civli war and the Igbos.

I am putting up this right up with upmost despair. ..the LSG action was purely out of the passion to make lagos the megacity we all has nigerians can be proud of in some of their actions some might be favourable&others not.But its not out of tribalism as igbos were not the only once deported, LSG not the only state govt that has engaged in deportation. The truth of the matter is that orji kalu who is the major course is being left out because he was the one that deluded igbos mind that it was a tribalistic act&also insulted the yorubas&particularly the naives of the hometowns of lagos origin namely badagry , epe, ikorodu&lagos island.
Which incited FFK write up.&frankly speaking this write up we are talking about holds no water really. But insulted the patriotic act of mobolagi Johnson on aguyi both of blessed memory, awolowo&enahoro who wasn't yoruba to start with...
FFK later apologised for mentioning some names, to be fear to him he isn't tribalistic but responded bitterly to orjis ridiculous statement. I really agree with the frank statement by @emex of igbo origin that any igbo that claims lagos doesn't belong to yoruba is....&any yoruba that belives igbos shud leav lagos is.....
Emex I love ibos too.i dont want them to leave, I ve dated more ibo ladies than yoruba counterparts, might end up marrying an ibo ladies. So please Nigerians stopthis madness. Lets look for a way forward to put responsible people in power, flush out this administration&put the right people in their. ..imagine a man like emeka anyankwu (a man I respect so much of above all ibos notable pple )becoming president of this country.
