Police to arrest husbands who beat their wives

The police headquarters Abuja said it will deploy more officers to clampdown on violators of human rights including people who bully their spouses.

Inspector General Mohammed Abubakar told journalists after a meeting with senior police officers in Abuja that more officers will be trained to safeguard human rights and ensure that officers do not violate the rights of suspects and detainees with the police also dealing with people involved in domestic violence espe-cially physical violence towards women.

He said the police will beam searchlight on those who beat their spouses adding that “You cannot batter your wife because we marry her.”

Though the details of how police will fish out bully husbands have not been made known but the IG was hopeful that the new measure will reduce domestic violence as well as human rights abuse by policemen.

  3. The use of the word "spouse" is better. When are they going to start fishing out wives who beat their husbands or is it always one way all the time?

  4. When will the Tortoise stop have shell? Never. Nigerian Police are trained to violate human right. if the IG is serious, let him publicly pass a death sentence on any Police Man who recklessly kills any body and sack those that are caught taking bribe and not sending them to other state and covering the evil deeds and publicly flog those that infringes on the little rights of other. Class room training will not change the taut you have as offices of the law.
