God will uproot bad leaders in Nigeria, says Gowon

Gen. Yakubu Gowon

Former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, on Monday in Ibadan prayed that God should uproot all the leaders with evil intentions against the country so that the polity could move forward.

Gowon spoke during his visit to Gethsemane Prayer Ministries Cathedral, Eleyele, Ibadan presided over by National Coordinator, Nigeria Prays, Rev. Moses Aransiola.

“I want God to uproot bad leaders from Nigeria as a way of moving the country forward from the present situation,” he said.

The ex-military ruler had been involved in ministration work praying fervently for peace and progress of Nigeria.

He also faulted the prediction that the country would break up by 2015, saying that similar prediction by France had already failed.

The former Head of State said, “Nigerians should stand up as one and intercede on the crises rocking this nation.

“That is when God will uproot all the leaders that have evil intention against this country. Nigerians needs to desist from creating problems which they cannot solve and stop blaming God for their shortcomings.

“We had series of crises in the past and if Nigerians can pray fervently well, sooner or later, this country will be free from its challenges; God has heard our cries and will surely answer.

“I don’t believe that the prediction by America that Nigeria will break before 2015 will happen. France said the same thing in the past that we will break up before 2014, but we still stand as one.

“Every Nigerian should stand against the claims. If we believes that it will not happen, then it will not.
“I believe God will not allow such to happen. Nigeria Prays is really praying against such.”

He said Nigerians at home and abroad were very concerned about the crises rocking this nation.
“We believe that only prayer can solve it. If you love Nigeria the way I love Nigeria, we should have faith, then we shall overcome”.

On political activities ahead of 2015 general elections, Gowon said, “the politicians are over-ambitious.
Gowon advised that the over-ambitious politicians should be ignored, as they spelt doom for the nation.
“Politicians should not be selfish but should protect the interest of the people to ensure equitable development of the country,” he said.(NAN)

  4. What is wrong with breaking up? We all know that Nigeria is a failed state with no end to terrible leadership. Better to peacefully split that to continue down this path to doom where we cannot even be federal. Mr one Nigeria stop fooling us because you are enjoying from this terrible situation. The souls of all the victims of your genocide awaits you with God"s judgement. How do you sleep at night? Now your northern partners are now killing your own people. Nemesis.

  5. Even if nigeria splits the problems wll still continue.as long as wl ve evil and corrupt spirit in us.all ethnic groups contribute to the problems of this country.e.g through out the donkey of yrs the northerners were power what ve they done to improve their lives.they didn't give their pple education,so most of their youths r illetrate nd jobless.that is why they can join Boko haram cus their idle hands.Obasanjo 8 yrs in office was a waste cus he had the power nd strenght to change ds country but he was beclouded by selfishness.Gej from a minority tribe that pple expected to put smile on pple faces was not different from others even worst.he celebrates corruption more than anything.he runs his govern like kindergatin nd has no focus.nothing seems to work in his regime.it is high time we woke up nd say enough is enough, let us put aside ethnicity, religion, irrationality in d display of our political senses so that there would be no war nd our naija can be competitive with the rest of giant nations in terms of all measures.none of our neighbour countrieslike us cus of our resources, cameroun,Ghana,SA,kenya even Britian, etc so if there is a war nobody wl accommodate us.and all the politicians children wl nt be in d country.so let God uproot bad leaders in naija nd fill our hearts with luv to vote without bias.

    1. Nigeria is a failed project. Repeating the same thing and expecting different results is called madness. If you cannot have truly regional/federal governments we will be in violent chaos and a failed state. Let the nations of people determine their own leaders and destiny.

  8. Oga gowon, dont mind anonymous 5:43am he/she must a be child of one of those rebels. You have done a little well during your time in office but your only problem is that you lack wisdom, you have no foresight.Although i was much younger to know how you accually run things then, but from history our great country nigeria has more than enough in its treasury and instead of you to use the fund in developing and building the nation to standart and high level, you rather spend our fund in organizing and celebrating festac, udoji and some unworth ceremony for some of those stupit western oyinbos and africans due to lack of wisdom and foresights. Anywaysha, your fault and problem as an angas from plateau must have come from large consumptions of bukutu and fito as a result that soften your brain and effect your way of reasoning. I really pity nigeria for producing those kind of leaders!

  10. With due respect, the problem we have today started with General Gowon in ability to foresee the future of this country. During his time he said the problem of Nigeria is not money but how to spend the money, then we had lot of money that suppose to be invested into many area, but he didn't do that, they keep planning for that moment instead of future , here we are now. the roads we had then is still what we have now, refineries is still the same, poor leaders like Gowon that does not have foresight is still what we have. if government want to do road instead to do road that will last for hundred years beyond, they will rather do the one that will last for four years, coming back for 2nd term they keep spending on repair the damage ones. We need a good leader that can foresee and project into the future, so the generation yet on born can see and benefit. Be guided
