Obi donates N220m to churches in two days

Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State has within the last two days handed over cheques totalling N220m to churches in the state to run their schools and hospitals.
The governor on Wednesday gave a cheque of N10m to the Anglican Bisho0p of Amichi, Rt. Rev. Ephraim Ikeakor, for the renovation of the Amichi Diocesan Hospital.

Ikeakor, who described Obi as a blessing not just to Anambra State but to humanity at large, prayed to God to raise more people like him for the edification of society.
The governor had on Tuesday toured some missionary institutions, where he gave out cheques totaling N120m.

On Wednesday, he continued with the visits and had given out N100m before cutting short the visits to attend to students of the Anambra State University that were protesting the killing of a female student at Igbariam campus.

Wednesday’s tour took him to St. Raphael’s School Abatete, where he presented a cheque of N10m to them; Premier Secondary School, Unubi where he presented a cheque of N10m; Mother of Mercy Secondary School, Azigbo, where he promised to support the school; Our Lady of Lourdes  Hospital, Ihiala, where he presented a cheque totaling N60m for various projects.

In all the institutions the Governor visited, especially schools returned to the missionaries, he lamented the level of dilapidation, regretted and apologised for the takeover of the schools and pledged government’s continued support to them until they were restored to their original glory.
The governor explained that he was supporting the mission institutions because they served the people of Anambra State.
At Mother of Mercy Girls Secondary School, Azigbo, Bishop Hilary Okeke of Catholic Diocese of Nnewi commended Obi for his support for the education, health and other sectors.

  2. Mr. Peter Obi is spending local government fund in the churches just to pretend he is a christian. He decided not to conduct LG election for almost 8 years and has so much accumulated their money to be spent in churches. SHAME Mr Governor. Charity begins at home. First get the LG stable and see if you will have enough to be throwing to the non governmental organizations. It is undemocratic to be sharing IM or 2M naira to the towns in Anambra state as this has set virtually all communities in Anambra state in crisis in their struggle to share your money. This pretentious benevolence will not prevent EFCC from asking you to deliver line by line the account of LG subvention for 8 years - 21 LGs collecting an average sum of 100M per month. We are watching. Time will tell if EFCC is serious or not.
